Very interesting Brian. My grip had changed for the worst over the past 2 decades. I just discovered my left hand grip was very weak and have since corrected that issue. Then I discovered your right hand grip video. I have not tried it on the course, just in my backyard. Here is my question. I have large hands, also strong which has worked against me in the past as I am not letting the club do the work, but I am working on that. When I use your method, much of my right hand does not come in contact with the club. There is quite a gap between the palm and the grip. Is this normal? It feels so different but I am going to try it today no matter how awkward it seems. The left hand correction I tried felt that way too, but it really worked. Cheers from Maine!

Just to clarify - the grip should be in the middle joints for the bottoms hands only right? For the top hand the club should still rest on the base of your fingers, not the middle joints.

At last - I’ve played golf for over 40 years and suffered from the right hand coming slightly off the grip at the top of my backswing. Holding the grip correctly in the right hand as shown has finally cured it 👍🤸‍♂️🏌️‍♂️

I have very small hands and always wondered why I can never get my thumb to align. I have watched so many videos, yet you’re the only one who has explained something so simple as using the middle pad of your fingers. Thank you sir

In my opinion, that depends, If you have a more rounded swing, like i do, gripping the club like that only makes It more over the top, but If you hold It in the base of the finger It helps staying shallow, like i said, its my opinion, im not a pro, not even close

Wow!! Something so simple but so useful. I’ve been playing for 10 years on and off and I’ve never heard this. I used to slice badly when I started but over the years eliminated that shot. So I felt good about that. However I started to hook hook hook more often. I got my short irons nice and solid and straight, but as I get to 5,4,3 irons i I tend to over grip and hook. This is one tip I’ll be sure to rememba !! Thanks

This makes so much sense to me. I am amazed that I haven't heard of this Grip before. My back has just started feeling better so it may be a few days until I try it. However, at home with my cut off short iron I have been practicing and noticed a difference in my backswing hand position. It seems I'm at a much better position now. My hands stay together without effort ; which is a big change for me. I think this may have been THE reason for my swing falling apart. After my next practice I will definitely let you know how it went. Thank you for posting. I hope you are handling this pandemic well.👍😊

Hello Brian, thank you for your great tips. One question Should the club be resting in the middle joints of all the fingers in the bottom hand or just the middle joint of the index finger ?

By cracky i think you might have fixed my golf issue....MOST of the time I hit the ball pretty straight but like you say, i'm blocking downward to square up the clubface (and now that i've seen you explain it I recognize what I've been doing)!! I have been doing exactly what you described by putting the grip in my right hand at the base of my fingers....I'll try it this way tomorrow!! Thank you for the tip!

I just cam across this rather old video of yours Brian regarding the correct grip! In viewing the video, I found that in placing the right hand on the club I do occasionally let the handle fall into the first joint of the fingers. And, that is probably what is causing the pulled, thin, and fat shots. I will definitely be immediately correcting this fault. I wish I would have seen this video over four years ago. It would have probably saved me a lot of grief!! :-) Thanks again Brian!!

I took another of your videos in yesterday as I had been hitting my irons dreadfully. Played today (yes it should have been practice first ) however whilst the setup feel felt completely indifferent and uncomfortable I persisted through the game with the result being extremely pleasing with longer ,higher and more powerful ball striking . Thanks so much for the treasure trove of down to earth videos .Appreciated

Fitzy, just had to tell you :) Used the middle pad thing last hit at my local course. Well...On in one on both Par 3s (a feat for me :) and the third Par 3 I hit right through it and off the back! :) Will have to come down a club :). But the best part, the 4th hole, a Par 4 that I have never made the green in two on before, smoked (for me :)) the driver off the tee and when I got to the ball I thought, wow I might even make the green from here, I've never been this close. Played a 6 iron onto the green to about 8 feet. Never in my life have I made this green in two. That 6 iron felt so sweet. I reckon using pads gets my trail hand to cover the ball better at impact, and gets me using the sweet spot rather than leading edge or very bottom grooves of irons. You beauty. Thanks mate. :)
