Love this video. It reaffirmed that I SHOULD be a PM. I am OK being on board with the strategic direction, I like fluidity, lean into the big responsibility, don't mind the spotlight (I was in Sales for 7+ years)

I'm currently working as a Senior Project Manager, and I find it difficult to pick either I should go for Program Management career or Product Management career.
As I know in terms of money they are pretty the same, in terms of job duties they are different, but I don't know which I like more, because as for now I'm doing kind of both of these roles :D what is your opinion about it?

It’s a newly created role to offload the leadership of its responsibilities by scoping a job like that. Boss hires a PM and forces them to run the business for you while taking all the profits himself.

Having direct reports is great it means you have grown as a PM when it happens , however whats more important is to grow in your role as PM to ensure that you are ready to lead people .In my opinion people should not rush to have direct reports , leading people is not easy for some PMs because leading people means you no longer just responsible for your own performance as PM , you are also responsible for other people’s performance as well which can be a challenge . PMs are great influencers , they have to influence a lot of people but it takes more than influence to lead people , 10 years doing the same role in the same or at different companies and experiencing different challenges prepares you exactly for that .There is nothing worth witnessing than a PM who is extremely adept at all aspect of the PM profession …. people management /project management /product management / Creating a vision /clear understanding of their product and the various metrics etc. you name it

So 5 points are:
1. Not setting the strategy
2. Very fluid position
3. Big responsibility
5. No direct reporting ppl
5. Being in spot light

If it takes a decade to move up to management, you're working on a dying or stagnant product. Look for growing companies and products.

Not having direct reports e.g. people management is in my opinion one of the biggest benefits of a PM role. High salary and high up in the hierarchy but not having to manage people is great. :-)

Brilliant! Would love to see more about how you format these presentations to different types of stakeholders. Do you have particular templates (narrative structures more than designs) or lessons learned from doing this? How do you make sure they’re high quality if you’re having to do them all the time?

Awesome video! Handling stakeholders can be a very tough thing to do as a PM (depending on your organization and political environment).. sometimes as a PM you are left with all the responsibility to deliver without the authority to execute.

You hit on some good points- especially for PMs that might be managing digital products that support the core product, or a physical product. It might be a supporting effort and you don’t always own the p&l. Great vid!

I feel like the direct report point is the most subtle. A PM fundamentally is a skilled, personable facilitator. The upside is you get to wear many hats and make things happen. The downside is you're not directing anything, you're facilitating.
