It has a bit more horsepower than a Corolla.

Imagine reviewing an MR2 Spyder without having properly thrown it into corners.

If the 6 speed is like what everyone else does it is NOT just like the 5 speed + a gear. The 6 speed people usually use when they swap to the 2zz is from the celica gts or matrix xrs, and the gear ratios are much better suited to having fun with these motors

As an 86 and MR-S owner, I can confirm that the MR-S is a more engaging and exciting drive :)

Couple things..
Staggered wheels were on all of them, I've owned a few, it sucks because it does make it hard to find matching tires. But on the 2000 it was 15x 7.5 up front and 15x9 on the rear.

The 2000-2002 were lower to the ground and handled better.

They all used the nylon bushings on the front struts and over time they harden and knock, the clutch pedal squeak that plagues the Corolla occurs here too..

The precat issue exists on the 00-02, the motor isn't the 1zz Corolla, it's the 1zzfed the d is forged internals, different intake, and a different tune.

I honestly love these cars, especially at 6ft 2in I can fit in it, comfortable, where I can't fit in the s2000 or the Miata.

Not quiet what I’m experiencing with my 2000 mr-s. Burning about 1L/1000kms, pre cats were in good condition when removed too

you keep saying "for such a short wheelbase" but that's actually false. This car is really stable at high speed because the wheelbase is *long* . the CAR is short, but the axles are very very far apart if you stare at it again. This car has a longer wheelbase than the older MR2 turbo. it means the overhangs are almost non existent in this car. it's a trick of the mind. that's why this thing doesn't twitch around as much as any miata.

Spyder is still so underrated. My mr2 is my favorite car and it’s not nearly as clean as this one.

Omfg I can’t tell you how difficult it is to find an mr2 with LSD swear to god all of them are either 2003 or earlier or they didn’t get the option honestly it’s fine tho I’m looking at one I think is the one very excited to test it out

does the trick to turn off power steering work on all mr2 spyders? or is this a just a feature on the later years

I test drove one of these today and it was my first time driving a manual. I was so awful at it that it kept jolting, shaking, trying to stall, and stalled. I would've kept going, but I don't want to burn out the clutch. I can't drive a manual to save a life.

I always thought these cars were ugly as sin but the hardtop changes everything. Looks fantastic.
