Quick question that may get my ass kicked but is there really a need for yeast nutrient??? I have made many washes and mashes with no added nutrient with both distillamax yeasts and straight up bread yeast and appears to make the same neutral/flavourless spirit. Also my washes are usually 1.080-1.090 and ferment to 1.000 -1.010 every time.

I thought neutral was not vodka, vodka is seperate and made from other Ingredients like potatoes and not just basically sugar with a touch of Tom paste.

Sorry for noob question. If I want to make a gin, I add the botanicals to the Vodka, dilute and distil again, correct? Why can’t you add the botanicals to the wash, ferment it and then distil it directly, like you do with rum?
