People... youre missing the point... people sells these mods! Nothing is done for free... Youre making money off of something that isnt yours. Sorry you feel entitled to multi billion companies assets... If someone did this to an indie developer THE SAME PEOPLE IN HERE SCREAMING AT ACTIVISION WOULD BE SCREAMING AT THE MODDER TAKING PROFITS FROM AN INDIE DEVELOPER. Hypocrisy at its finest... the gaming world and culture is full of this... sorry you made these companies so much money! y'all did this

THE GUY EVEN SAYS IT... IN THE COURT OF LAW THIS HOLDS UP! ACTIVISION WOULD WIN THE CASE.
But y'all still want to cry about it????
Which say's alot about how you view property and right to ownership over physical and intellectual property...

Full stop. So when this happened to every other facet of life, people sleep. But corporatism taking over gaming 10 years ago and NOW yall wake up? They are not making these games for us anymore, nor for themselves. It's all calculated to achieve max profit. It's so plain to see, why is everyone powerless and blind?

Because you can't stop this "progress". There's too much money to be made from it. And those with interest in it are in the governments making policies.

They are playing us, but doing so by the rules.

And then wonder why people stop having kids, don't wanna fight for their countries anymore, depression and drug use through the roof. The system is cracking, and to be honest there's a few giant cracks allready formed.

Turbulence is on the horizon just as it is in england right now. How long? Depends on how long media, can distract us/ the gov's incompetence is tolerated.

@stephensmith4124
@stephensmith4124 - 12.09.2024 19:49

I’ve never been a COD player, not sure I ever will, but this says to me a few things:

1) They were tracking this for a long time, seeing it develop and seeing how effective it was.

2) They waited on purpose to get as many sales before its release to pocket the extra cash this hype generated for free. Then pulled the plug right before launch to avoid legal backlash as it’s a mod made with their builder. ( As far as I understand it, you would need specific coding to support mods, so therefore they’d not be illegal.)

3) They thought they could make it worthless to the developers who created the mod after 100% of the work was done so they could either backdoor scrape or just offer them a lowball price for it in a months time and then market it as their own idea to sell to the masses.

You get what you pay for with Activision.

All of your efforts bear little fruit, and all that is left for you is to review bomb and become bitter and spiteful towards other consumers... Maybe protesting online is not at all what needs to happen? Maybe hating on other gamers for buying these games hurts your efforts? Maybe getting behind a screen isn't going to make AAA change. All you do is watch these videos and maybe rant on twitter or some other place. Speaking hundreds of voices into a void. Maybe... Don't be like this? Do you know how people protested in Animal Crossing? Well maybe this is just as effective as that?

They also probably did it because now big publishers are competing with their own past games. Retro gaming is big, largely because it isn’t monetized to hell and back. So now companies are desperate to force people to play the latest and not so greatest, hence scumbag moves like this.

This is why passion projects need to launch unscheduled

Once online and downloaded by fans it'll stay online

Look at AM2R that nintendo killed after it released

You can find a copy everywhere online and it now sits at version 1.6 because it managed to get released before the cease and desist

Ответить
@egondro9157
@egondro9157 - 16.09.2024 12:52

The cease and desist only works on their IP if the modder profits. They are have to prove that they are losing money because of personal IP and the other person profits. If they aren’t profiting the only angle would be to point to lose but that’s harder when game sells on newer games drops of and older games get random pushes. The legal team could easily argue the profit they made since the mod announcement and that they got their profit from work. They got paid.

I find it ironic only the big companies care about mods like this, Toby Fox litterally hopped onto a fan game because he loved it so much,

Scott leaves up some fnaf ganes he absolutely could take down but doesn't because he loves the fan games

Why oh why are indie devs who should be conserned about profits not caring about them?

That’s because Activision feels that they are going to lose money. Like you said the micro transactions the thinking that people still wanna play this game when in reality people don’t wanna play the game. They wanna play the mod. I played call of duty in years and without it being modded, I wouldn’t touch it.
