Reminder!!
Your leaders in government own you and you will do what they want or die anyway. Its always been this way. They hate you and its never changed in the west or east.
Think this wont happen in 2024.
Your joking yourself.

That is so sad that people were executed over supposed self-inflicted wounds. Even today, don’t think you could tell with 100 accuracy, and on the front there were bullets and artillery flying everywhere….pretty much any injury (like shot in the hand…in both hands) could happen by chance at least a few times.

It shows who these wars really serve when countries are willing to kill their own people just to make sure everyone stays in line

another dark aspect of WW1 was the deliberate killing of the wounded. My grandfather was a Ambulance driver who won the military medal at St. Julien. a family heirloom if a rvolver he was carrying, illegally, it has 7 knotches in either side of the hanldles ( so 7 or 14 men) all his own men. they were used to ‘humanly’ put down thoe too serverely wounded to mke it back to the clearing stations, and spend their time working on those they could save. The london illustrated War news magazine is full of red cross men of all sides carrying weapons, just for this purpose.

This video covers a very interesting topic but it ends so abruptly! It could really do with a longer discussion, at least ten minutes or more to fully explore a lot of the depth that is only hinted at in the present video.

It was the waiting around that probably got to them, waiting around to get killed. In previous wars, and most wars after, combat was fast-paced, but trench warfare was different.

People do all kinds of things to survive and avoid military service. For example, current prime minister here in Croatia had his mom who was doctor in a hospital at the time for his pre service checkup write that her precious is anemic, in order to spare him from serving mandatory service in back then Yugoslavia army.

I don't want to sound too stupid but shell shock and PTSD is NOT the same
Shell shock is physical damage to the brain by shock waves (usually explosions from shells)
And PTSD is (usually) caused by fear, or more the fear of something, dying or injury in this case, and the psychological effect of this

all wars are designed by governments to weed out strong men.

prove me wrong. they want an ultimately weak race of men who wont fight back. but can work. slaves. prove me wrong.

in La Grande Guerra, in the Italian Army, my grandfather, a lieutenant, witnessed two older soldiers shooting each other in the lower leg, quite a convincing wound. Both men together had something like 14x children, and nothing was said. The penalties in the Italian Army in WW1 were harsh, my grandfather also witnessed several executions near the front lines, using soldiers from the condemned men's units, not military police, at least at his unit. "Shell shock" and another word I cannot spell neurothisia were used in this war. One thing hardly mentioned, PTSD being so common these days, in those days was "soldier's heart" Funny reading comments here about how horrible war is. I did 18 months in Iraq, infantry and all that... why do people tell me "war is bad" or "people get killed in war" oh well
