Hey Ethan - I loved the authenticity of this video along with all of the others I've seen on your channel. I recently made the switch to Ableton from Logic after being a Logic head for 6 years. It's been around 6 months since I've switched over, so I can say a few things.

I guess I'll start with the synths... ES M is insanely simple and super slept on (imo) mono synth that is great for sub basses and acid sounds. It''s extremely intuitive and relatively easy to get some nice sound out of. Since switching to ableton I have yet to find a synth that is that simple and robust to create those sounds. ES2 has some good sounds as well, and you can basically do anything with it, but I would often opt for different, easier to use synths such as ES P or Retrosynth. Retrosynth is great for beginners and you can make some relatively complex sounds (as far as subtractive synthesis can stretch lol). E FM is garbage, I've never been able to use it effectively, same with ES E. Alchemy has some really complex presets and lots of customizability, but the system for modulation is not as great as other 3rd party synths like Serum or even Surge XT. It also annihilates your cpu, so that's fun <3. Sculpture is a very intimidating, but powerful synth, but I have not had any luck designing sounds from scratch using it because there's just so much going on.

I'm not gonna sit here and write about every audio effect, but logic has most of them and they're pretty good. Phat FX and Step FX are easily the most slept on, and so is tape delay. Super powerful stuff. However, some Ableton effects that I now cannot live without do not have a Logic clone such as Erosion and Spectral resonator. Also, it's true, ableton has better warping capabilities and it is way more intuitive when it comes to this. Additionally the instrument and effect racks are extremely helpful and fun to create, and though you can save fx racks and macros on logic, ableton is way more efficient and effective when it comes to this.

In terms of workflow, I do sometimes miss the pitch correct function in Logic, it's basically melodyne but worse, but at least it's free! To my knowledge, ableton does not have a feature like this. A lot of people also say that mixing in Logic is easier, but I've had no problem mixing in ableton. The horizontal audio effect rack saves so much time not having to have 3000 different plugin windows open. Ableton also has the ability to search for any plugin efficiently, something logic does not have.

Overall they're both amazing programs with great capabilities, but after switching to ableton, I'm never going back.

Fun video! I appreciate that this video had all the snark I would expect from a Logic vs Ableton video but is ultimately playful and recognizes that both are great tools and the main difference between them is how well you know one versus the other! Subscribed!

I started in Logic and switched to Ableton. At this point, I don’t know that one is really better than the other, but I’m a big fan of Ableton Push and that’s the main thing keeping me on Ableton.

(FWIW, Apple has a similar thing in the Logic Remote app for iPad…it’s sort of the “Push” for Logic. And it works well — but for me a touch screen just doesn’t compare to the physical controls on the Push).

I don't know why this wasn't showing up in the context menus, but Command T is the command to split a track. That's why it doesn't make a new track. To me, an idiot, Command N is what I'd expect for a new track, but that makes a new project, so it's Option Command N, which is pretty logical I would say. Command T in Final Cut Pro is the trim tool, that splits a video clip, so it's the exact same command in logic to trim the track, or split it rather. Just different commands for different workflows.

If you are buying the latest version of Logic then you won't be able to use the older more reliable macbooks from 2012 and 2015, both my personal faves. You'll need a newer mac with a newer OS. However, with ableton, you can use it with an older Mac OS so if you have a 2015 macbook then you are good to go with Ableton. I'm on an old pirate copy of logic from a few years ago that I cannot update. I want a new fresh copy of logic but it will require me dropping at least 1300 bucks for a used 16 inch M1 chip Macbook so I can get the newer OS. I am trying to decide if I wanna buy Ableton standard while it's on sale and see how it runs on my 2015 macbook pro with 16gb RAM or do I buy an M1 chIp macbook and get logic. The most expensive option would be M1 macbook plus ableton

I got really good at logic in two weeks. It took me five years on Ableton

I am fluent in Sonar, Abbleton, protools, steinberg, fruity loops, and logic. Logic is absolutey the last DAW I would use. You can't quick master in Logic; the tools aren't there and the layout of requires way too much mousing movement. If you're a pro use: abbleton, studio one, steinberg, protools, or even cakewalk for mastering Audio tracks. Fruity Loops, Garage Band, Logic, are for making midi tracks. This video is absolutely correct. I am only here because I was trying to master someone's Logic track and I ended up mastering it, but I told him that I will never do it again.

I am a beginner. And I started with ableton 3 years ago. I had to watch a few tutorials and it wasn’t hard to understand. But once you get deeper into electronic music theory, it is pretty much like math or coding. You have to Google stuff and you will learn completely new ways of making music. Garage band and logic is great for kids.

This is goofy but, the thing i cant stand about Ableton, is that all the track parameters are on the right side of the screen. EVERY other DAW they are on the left, and its so uncomfortable for me. I want to love Ableton but.......ugh i hate that.

Very humorous comparison. 😎 Well I‘m just a hobby amateur musician who uses Logic and I think if you‘d worked with Logic all the time and now tried Ableton in the same manner it would be exact the same result, just the other way round: you‘d have said the absolute same of Logic as you said of Ableton. I’m absolutely sure about that. I hardly ever subscribed to a user of another DAW, not because another DAW is less good, but because I want to be taught in Logic! And I’ll never change to another DAW. Thanks for this funny but absolute professional video!

I’ve been abletoning since 2015 and love it but I’ve been a little bi curious myself about logic. Mainly because everyone who uses ableton seems to make electronic 4 on the floor music exclusively (except Tame Impala), but I make rock music (like tame impala/Beatles). So I feel like I should be using logic or protools but idk my bff Jill

Ive been using both for decades. They're both super easy to use. My favorite thing about ableton is that everything is drag and drop and the browser is the best in the business which makes it a great took to create a beat very quickly. logic is my go-to all-in-one DAW (recording, mixing, scoring, beatmaking). Pick what you like and what works for you There is no sound difference between any DAW. The workflow is what matters most for the end product. If youre frustrated or uninspired then the final product wont come out as good. If you're workflow is strong then youre product will "sound" better.

Thanks for the fun :) Ableton is way better and intuitive. I just wish Ableton looks like cubase or any other daws. Its layout is not inspiring to me, it's a downer. it's like looking at my cat's furr ball fresh out of his stomach, honestly. Ableton is ugly, and for no reasons. How a moody grey color can be inspiring. Now, ressources consuming isn't an issue. So Why so ugly ?
