2022 Subaru BRZ Reviewed vs. Toyota GR 86

Was there any interest, whatsoever, in sound dampening at speed? Quiet was it? Medium quiet--loud?

Just noticed this video - very good content I must say! But I am giving the squint eye to the Subaru guy's comment about how they mount the turbo underneath the engine so could not use one on the BRZ. He is being a bit disingenuous - the engine + turbo setup for the WRX is like that sure, but HKS (and others) manage to fit a turbo in without raising the engine or altering the bonnet lines. I'm running a 2012 BRZ with an HKS supercharger mounted on top of the motor. Ok a *slight* raise of the COG but the handling is still amazing and the modest (stage 1 kit) performance change totally fixes the 2 L motor power and torque issues.

I can't help thinking the real reason for no turbo in the BRZ is a desire to *not* cannibalize WRX sales.

Get life Get a civic hatchback 6mt 2.0L.

what if a gr86 & brz would look like as a Time Machine

Would the BRZ be the better choice for my daily driver and no track use for me. Do they require premium grade gas and what real world fuel mileage is everyone seeing? (vs the GR86)

How does this compare to driving a Miata? (Manual vs manual)

Any comments on head gasket issues of the previous generations to worry about?
Any worries about the silicone droppings in the oil pan?

Looks like a fun car.

Keep pushing, buying, and telling politicians, regulators, and manufacturers that we want control, ICE and not be bullied into 'the last' mentality.

Two words super changer

They easily could've added a turbo and raised everything an inch or 2 at most. The fact is the car was built to a price point and it already gets relatively bad fuel economy so they didn't want to upset the EPA too much more. And people will still buy it this way so why not keep it status quo. With a turbo and 330HP this car could've been a absolute legend but nobody is interested in stirring the soul anymore. That's what the aftermarket is for I guess as long as we control the EPA and remind them they work for us.

That mpg is pretty bad, for what this is.

Wonder if anyone has reflashed a BRZ with the GR86 tune. Might swing by my Toyota dealership to see if it's possible. Theoretically, it sounds like reflashing it to a stock tune wouldn't be an issue.

BRZ looks too cheap with that grill. Also why is the gas mileage so bad for such a small engine with little power ??

Unrelated to the video, what type of A/C refrigerant is in the new BRZ? R134A or that new expensive crap R1234YF?

I loved the BRZ, but I hated the computer assists you couldnt turn off.

what I mean by that was that it wasnt designed to drive without ABS. wish there was a version with a brake balance knob and kw v3 stock

Just pre-ordered my 2023 BRZ Premium in sapphire blue! Expected delivery in November! Excited! Was a fan of the 1st gen but never owned.

I wish that they made some sort of retractable hardtop for the 86 that would make it the ultimate choice over Miata no matter what.

Throw in a Supercharger and a Sunroof and or Convertible, then I’ll BUY IT!

motortrend got a nice 5.8 seconds in the 0-60 on the manual premium, thats half a second faster than on this review

Very nice, comprehensive review dude. Well, i'm getting old. I was able to drive the '65, 2008 & other year Mustangs at high speed, although I never owned 1, but not so good, strong at it now. I have a small pile of M$ now & I need to be careful not to run out of it as i'm retired, but i'm zeroing in on this BRZ with 6 speed manual as my last chance hoorah with a sports car. Your thoughts?

Why should you raise the motor for the turbo?? Just put it next to it, like after market ones

Much prefer the front looks of the Toyota and the rear looks of the BRZ. I'll say I can't deal with the Duckbill

the last REAL SUBARU this one represents what made people follow this brand and what the older wrxs were like....FRAMELESS DOORS even in 4doors SLICK DESIGNS and not inflated box like huge for no reason buckets..... actuall power and handling....wrxs got disrespected after the eagle eye generation....and this company keeps raping their appearence ever since....THE 1 AND ONLY NEW SUBY WORTH BUIYNG
