But I am giving the squint eye to the Subaru guy's comment about how they mount the turbo underneath the engine so could not use one on the BRZ. He is being a bit disingenuous - the engine + turbo setup for the WRX is like that sure, but HKS (and others) manage to fit a turbo in without raising the engine or altering the bonnet lines. I'm running a 2012 BRZ with an HKS supercharger mounted on top of the motor. Ok a *slight* raise of the COG but the handling is still amazing and the modest (stage 1 kit) performance change totally fixes the 2 L motor power and torque issues.
I can't help thinking the real reason for no turbo in the BRZ is a desire to *not* cannibalize WRX sales.

what if a gr86 & brz would look like as a Time Machine
Would the BRZ be the better choice for my daily driver and no track use for me. Do they require premium grade gas and what real world fuel mileage is everyone seeing? (vs the GR86)

ОтветитьThey easily could've added a turbo and raised everything an inch or 2 at most. The fact is the car was built to a price point and it already gets relatively bad fuel economy so they didn't want to upset the EPA too much more. And people will still buy it this way so why not keep it status quo. With a turbo and 330HP this car could've been a absolute legend but nobody is interested in stirring the soul anymore. That's what the aftermarket is for I guess as long as we control the EPA and remind them they work for us.

Wonder if anyone has reflashed a BRZ with the GR86 tune. Might swing by my Toyota dealership to see if it's possible. Theoretically, it sounds like reflashing it to a stock tune wouldn't be an issue.

what I mean by that was that it wasnt designed to drive without ABS. wish there was a version with a brake balance knob and kw v3 stock

I was able to drive the '65, 2008 & other year Mustangs at high speed, although I never owned 1, but not so good, strong at it now. I have a small pile of M$ now & I need to be careful not to run out of it as i'm retired, but i'm zeroing in on this BRZ with 6 speed manual as my last chance hoorah with a sports car. Your thoughts?
