Isn't Jackie a CVT teacher? All of this could have been a 15 seconds video if the other teacher had asked her to sing in Overdrive instead of Edge. I mean that's, basically the difference between the 2 versions of her cover, 1st one she is modifying the vowels towards the Edge mode and the second one stays more in the "OH" "EH" overdrive vowels, which still require TWANG, but less than Edge and a more neutral/neutral high, instead of a Very high larynx.
Both CVT and Estill are good techniques, but CVT is way easier to communicate.

Edit: It really depends on the students and teachers. It's not true that CVT is easier to communicate than EVT

Eventually you will sing what you feel and singing that kind of emotional song, probably in the real world you won’t use that more muffled sound in this specific song. That’s just my personal opinion, I really enjoy the first version, amazing and emotional.

What happens to singing posture?
Why not write the song out on a piece of paper instead of putting the pad up and down on the floor .This is supposed to be a video on how to sing not doing gymnastics .
Poorly presented.

I prefer the sound of the teacher. Her sound is more open and clear and forward when they are both doing the same thing. The "student" sounds more down in the throat and she's curbing/keeping part of the sound in. You can hear some sort of restraint.

Curious why the coach didn’t instruct the singer to simply create a more pure [a] sound on the word I’m and a more pure [ɛ] sound for the word best. More open throat vowels. Incredible singing nonetheless.

I'm on that very journey and this is so useful. It's also very encouraging to see the teacher submit themselves to the process! Thank you for this, subscribing!

My CVT teacher actually used the same techniques as the other Estill teacher, overdrive also uses the more shouty "hey, you over there" sound. I feel like the singer's bright twangy sound was a personal choice more than actually a mistake in technique

Did you say that you get your vibrato by moving your larynx up and down? You sounded great by the end by the way. I also thought you sounded great at the beginning, but I did see the difference.

You sound fantastic here! I'm only a few minutes into the video. You have a very rock 'n' roll and soulful voice.

I like the first performance. It was much more interesting. I love the gentle sound in the beginning. The power of the voice isn't always the volume...

Who is the teacher? She is the only one teaching belt with a relaxed larynx, using the “ uh” vowel which lowers the larynx and mainly used in classical technique......and I can hear a very good result.

What a waste of time. I'm so tired of vocal coaches using gimmicks and telling singers to shout like their in church, or stick out their tongue, cackle like a witch, etc. Then they stand back at the end and say, "Doesn't that sound better?" She gave no practical examples of how to achieve a better sound and didn't even SING one phrase of the song. For the first half of instruction the teacher encouraged her to use less twang because it was making her larynx raise, and then when the singer was demonstrating a chesty, dull sound, made her take her Aa vowel back toward a twang resonance. The teacher asks the singer implement too many gimmicks and then the singer ends up trying to keep up with the demands erratic instructions. She sounds the same from the start to the end, which is very good, I must say. She has a great foundation. I just hope you didn't pay for the instruction...

Wow! Respect to you Jackie for putting this video here! You have a beautiful voice! I so much recognize these problems in my own baritone voice. High Larynx and probably collapsing the pharyngeal walls a bit. The problems start as I want to thin off the chest and move into what I would call a mix with chest colour(E4-C5), problems increasing the higher I go. I wonder if that collapsing, or at least partial collapsing of the wall is the reason for me experiencing vocal fatigue when done often and extensively, prohibiting the vocal chords to vibrate as freely as they should? Or is it more related to the high larynx position? The problems do not arise if I produce the same sound in more of a head voice coloured mix, given the volume is pretty much the same. Take care! / swedish bloke living in Berlin
