This was some great information! I never knew there was a genesis 3! I had model 2 and the Sega cd growing up! Great games, great system, and great storytelling!

Remember getting this for Christmas one year.

In 1998 I asked for a playstation for Christmas, I got a genesis 3.
In 2001 I asked for a playstation 2, I got a playstation.

I was always a generation behind as a kid but atleast the games were cheaper.

that was my first video game console ever, good memories playing the adventures of batman and robin.

I loved the genesis 3. It was small

It’s fascinating seeing this cute little console, I would choose to stick with my model 1 but it’s interesting seeing these smaller redesigns.

Bought one in 1999 at wal-mart for $19.99. Had a deadbeat roommate that “borrowed” it and moved out soon after in about 2012. Never saw it again. Just bought a mint one on eBay for $55. Now I just need to get my 3 games again. Road rash 2, gunstar heroes, and NHL 94.

IF you're a die hard fan and or collector yes this is a must have just for the fact it adds to the collection. The sum of the games it plays is small but some are cool and you know looks like a neat little system. I never used it as a kid I was into the oG SEGA Genesis but didn't with the followup systems until DreamCast. LOVE that system...

The fact that this thing can play USA games as well as region free Japanese games is a huge win in my book. I almost regret buying a Japanese Mega Drive when I could have just gotten this. 😂

The sounds are bad on this console

I only own the 2nd Model of the Genesis but yeah if I saw this I would have skipped it since I swapped to Nintendo 64 at the Time this came out! but maybe Today I would have it since I wouldn't mind Region Free Mega Drive Games on the System!

I bought mine new, about 25yrs ago. Unlike my new G2 bought in 93, this one still works fine. Then again, I don't "jerk" it around :P

My parents bought us a genesis 2 when we were kids, we had it a lot of years and broke down on us, we had a lot of games still but couldn't play them. when I was able to save money as a kid doing chores and favors for neighbors, I went to buy a new one and they had the genesis 3, so that's what I had to get, overall was happy with it.

Hey, been a subscriber for a year or so. Have you ever thought about talking about the ports on the back of consoles? So many went nowhere, or were just used by third party developers. Sega used them pretty extensively, and arguably, it's what led to the downfall of their company.

Just a thought.

We had that original Sega with the headphone jack and volume. My cousin's had the other one.

I started with model 1. My dad came home from work one night in the early 90s with it in a paper bag randomly. Before that we'd only played my cousin's NES. Having our own system in the house was a game changer. Only now do I realize how relatively new it was at the time

My question is if Sonic 3 works with the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on tech with the Genesis 3 model

I just recently got my hands on a Genesis 3. It’s so ridiculously tiny! I love it though. It’s perfect for sitting on my computer desk when I wanna make gaming vids. I have a Model 1 and Model 2 as well, along with the Genesis Nomad. I’m on a mission to collect most, if not all, Sega consoles. Sega was my fave as a kid.

Would've been cool if they had put the 32X (like they had thought of doing a couple years earlier with the Neptune) into it so those games could be played thru this. Would've made it so much more tidy as far as not having so many cords to monkey with

Sega genesis has always been my favorite console out of them all through the years and the model 3 was my absolute go to mainly for its portable convenience and still holding up to the sounds and graphics the first model had and totally untrue about the game genie it worked for mine

I still own mine and it works, I got mine at Walmart before Super Walmarts existed.

Almost did a spit-take when i saw the little Genesis take off from the shelf, lol.

This is the genesis I remember playing as a kid, my aunt had it so us kids played it when we were at her house.

Brazil continued building those until 2023. Here in South America I remember being super available during the 2000s

I actually saw one at a local mom and pop shop the unit by itself for $100.... I was contemplating on buying one for collector purposes but.... I dont have room at home as to i live with my parenta still with my bedroom i got too many retro consoles... Lol besides im Happy with my Mega SG by analogue... So ill stick to that??

I had one as a kid for a short time around 2008. I had about 5-6 games all with the original cases and ended up selling it to a used game store for like only $50. I regret that to this day. At the time my only thinking was it’s too old and I wanted money to buy more 360 stuff.

Some thing saga hade that the others did not have is a hand hold so y did they not make a saga hand hold game reader like the Nintendo gc hade or just bring out a new hand hold to hold people over till the next console

I own a Genesis I with High Definition Graphics. Unless you are a hardcore collector or need to save space, DO NOT BUY A GENESIS III.

My understanding is Sega designed and engineered the Model 3 & Majesco licensed & distributed it from there. The Model 3 sports fantastic video & audio quality (albeit mono) vs Model 2 & even Model 1. All Model 1s are susceptible to rainbow banding except VA7 and most Model 2s are susceptible to jail bars and or rainbow banding except Model 2s with the Sony video encoder including the VA3. Model 2 VA4 doesn’t have the rainbow banding or jail bars and its sound is similar to Model 1 High Definition models but it does have some conflicts with the 32X unit. IMO if you’re not going to play 32x or Sega CD or the handful of cartridges that aren’t playable the Model 3 it’s an excellent option especially if triple bypass installed on Model 3 VA1 which will allow 32x attachment. Both Model 3 VA1 & VA2 can play Sega CD games from Everdrive with the TBP installed. Just my opinion but I do own most of the Genesis models and revisions

Was this released outside NA? I just dont remember it. Surely it would hsve been call the mega drive 3 in EU/AU
