The 3DS eShop lives on, thanks to Piracy ️

It's funny, I only had one modern Spider-Man game I'd never played, Spider-Man Edge of Time, and it turns out that the 3DS had a 1-1 port of the console game, just crunched down for the handheld. So I only got to play the final Spider-Man game on my list because Nintendo shut down their store.

I don't feel bad at all, as in my area the average copy of Edge of Time is around 60 bones on Xbox 360, and between 30-50 on 3ds for some reason, also Beenox doesn't have the Spider-Man license anymore, so the license payers wouldn't get it, Nintendo wouldn't get it, the publishers wouldn't get it, so I just snagged it off the Hshop and it was a great game.

If I could've payed for it properly I would've, but my 360 is modded so downloading there wasn't an option, and I'm not about to pay close to the price of the new Spider-Man 2 coming out October this year for a 12 year old 4-5 hour side game to some random Joe Schmo round the corner.

It's a shame to lose digital storefronts but it's understandable why they'd close, and obviously they're not gonna keep manufacturing tonnes of copies of decades old games unless they're still top sellers (looking at you GTA5) it's just not feesable. Glad all these games were preserved. Some day in the future if humans are still kicking about some guy will stumble across some game from decades past, boot it up in an emulator and have the time of their life exploring experiences we currently cherish.

Preservation is key, and it's good to see the 3DS be fully preserved for the rest of recrodable history

I did that recently because I'm poor af but then 3DS eShop closed so now I have a legitimate reason to do it, also hShop is epic :)

I picked up playing Ultra Sun and Moon after almost 3 years off and came back to not only finding out pokemon bank is gone but an overwhelming amount of hackers on the GTS that constantly freezes and crashes the game. I need GameFreak and Nintendo get it together and stop forcing people to buy new when a lot of us would do it anyway

I’m 100% not gonna download games obtainable from cartridges. I am a good person, so I’m only doing it for the free games.

A few years ago I was feeling nostalgic and got the itch to play pokemon. Remembering that Pokemon gold got a remake I tried finding a copy of HeartGold. Prices online were insane. Went to GameStop and some mom and pop stores and they were also insanely priced. With no other way to buy it, I looked into buying an r4 cart and hacking my 2DS to play the dam thing.

Does the poke transporter work with a black and white Unova game as a download / digital game like Red & Blue do ??

I literally bought Zelda totk to emulate it on my pc.
Went to the hardware store and saw that game and had to pick it up.
I'm using my switch only as dumping tool, and don't play it anymore.
Games look so much better and sometimes also run at 60fps relatively easily, it's hard to go back to native switch.
Native switch vs. emulation is a night and day difference on my TV.

Unfortunately ninpendo hates emulation and mods so much, they claimed a DMCA takedown for lockpick.
I guess you know what this means.
You're no longer able to dump YOUR decryption keys to emulate YOUR rom dumps and in the meantime, pirates just continue sharing their games and keys around, while the honest customer who legally bought it has no longer an official way to get into switch emulation.
I mean yeah unless you have a backup copy of lockpick ofc.
But who knows if the last version will continue working forever.

I just recently started playing my 3DS again and my biggest takeaway is... that it's uncomfortable. I was playing Metroid Samus Returns and I couldn't play more than 2 hours without feeling cramped. I love the DS and 3DS, but wow do they feel awful after all the switch pro controllers or handheld switch grips I've used.

If/when I get a 3DS, I'm going to mod it and get the H-Shop so I can play Rhythm Heaven lol

I played Chrono Trigger on a SNES emulator when I was a kid and boy did I love that game. Since then I have bought the SNES cartdrige, PS1, DS and Steam version of the game. Why? Because I love it 😄

why am i just now finding out that my 8 or so year old 3ds is the limited edition and im literaly holding a $300 system

i think all moral and legitimacy questions aside -- i got the SNES Classic and the PlayStation Classic, hacked em with lots of games (most of which i owned at some point), and then never touched them .i have probably 40 3DS games on my shelf, and 15-20 digital ones on the system still ive never played. And probably never will, why do i need to go back and emulate 600 other games that i didn't want bad enough to buy the first time around? The less time i have for games, and the more consoles and such that come out -- i find i want to go back to old games less and less. i just got the Playdate, i just got a Steam Deck ,i still have to get a newer PC and a PS5. I dont need to go back and play BoxBoy, (I own that legally and it was fun, but I wont go back to it) -- i just bought River City Ransom and Ape Escape on my PS4 because of nostalgia - -and i showed my 6 year old nephew them for a few minutes, he wasn't impressed, and I doubt Ill ever fire them up again...
So can you emulate? Sure. Do most of us need to? i doubt it.

When I started my old copy of Pokémon X back up and realized the e-shop was gone I was like ??? Why??? I'm not gonna get a switch just because you prevent me from buying older games, I'm just gonna get the older games from somewhere else. I was like LET ME GIVE YOU MONEY NINTENDO and nintendo was like "not unless you also buy a new system" and I'm like, the switch is great but man, this 3ds is still working perfectly well and I just happen to like the games you offered on there and no the games you offer on the switch. Why would you disable a service that MAKES YOU MONEY with no downside???? Why?!

I own Mega Man 1-6 on NES, the Legacy collection in every physical form. The Legacy collection digitally on my computer switch, xbox and 3ds. Also I own the Anniversary Collection on Xbox PS2 and Game Cube. Also 1 and 3 on dos and 2 and 3 on tiger electric hand held. I own every north American way to play these games. I even have the collectors edition of the wily wars for sega.

My opinion on piracy is that it absolutely is not theft. Think about it, if you steal a car for example, that car is now in your possession but no longer in the possession of the person you stole it from. If you pirate a piece of software however, all you are doing is copying something from one place to another, so nobody actually loses anything. At most you could say that the company misses out on profit if you pirate something, but if it's something you can't even buy brand new anyway then that argument is void.

Personally, despite my love of Nintendo, They are a major company making Millions, Billions off loyal fans. If it was available, they wouldn't pirate. Im not gonna sit in the comments defending them over games they don't offer on their newest consoles or literally anywhere. The same goes for Sony and Microsoft. If the game isn't available and you are modding a outdated system, I think its totally fine.
