You know you could have a opportunity after the death a dead space to rebuild with a epic public space.
Would be interesting if the engineering is possible even if it didn't happen.

Washington Cathedral still had stonemasons working on it decades ago. The skill sets are still there.

Use wood because it's important to keep it original.

I'm going to apply for that job. This needs to be done by people who care. What's the name of this carpenter company?

It would be ridiculous to rebuild the unseen structures in timber: It took more than 50 acres of great trees to build the original! They used wood because they had no alternative.
I suggest it be cleaned up and left as a reminder of what has happened.

The future is steel and not wood fabrication.Steel lasts forever, while wood can be destroyed by termites and woodpeckers.Thats why steel is number 1.

Watched a video last night about the restoration of the cathedral in York in England after a major fire there in 1984, there are many fine craftsmen in the UK, as they noted in Germany and Scandinavia as well. I hope that France will welcome in true experts for help with the restoration of Notre Dame. That is not to say France does not have fine carpenters, just as they video notes, there are no so many of them these days.

Can't believe wood being used in the rebuild! They don't do that in the states anymore and for good reason too! Hope the rebuild goes well reguardless!

There are some carpentry companies that have extensive experience in historical restoration. Being French I was not aware that carpentry is not well-considered.

Carpentry school 101: 1: Don't wear protective glasses. 2: Don't wear ear protection. 3: Don't wear helmets and thick gloves when handling large and heavy beams.

I am sure that the rest of Europe (for example Germany and Denmark) can supplement with carpenters if France itself cannot find enough.
We are some who would very much like to participate. If I get an inquiry, I just need to spend a week in Denmark to run my business and then I'm ready (I'm a 65-year-old carpenter)!

There are different levels of construction. Notre Dame needs skilled craftsman. You might as well bring the oldest guys you can find and let them hire an apprentice they can mold into someone slightly up to the task.

“In Scandinavia and Germany, carpenters are lauded as lawyers.” What a compliment for these very skilled and talented craftsmen. In the USA? They erect garbage and command exorbitant prices for them.

My Grandfather was a General Contractor, one of his son's became a very successful General Contractor. My Dad and his younger brother were Carpenters. I am a retired electrician as is my brother. My son is a 54 year old Plumber as is my brother's oldest boy. My Son-in-law is approaching retirement age as another electrician.
There are a number of problems leading to the condition that was described in this video. Over the past 30+ years, corporate America has decided that a employee collecting, washing, and re-distributing "glassware" in a science/lab environment needs to have a college degree. Consequently, almost all high school graduates and their parents feel it's absolutely necessary to get a college education/degree. Anyone choosing to do "skilled/manual" type labor, by contrast, is looked down upon as "the dummy" class. Never mind that many of those "college graduates" find themselves in the trades making a nice "union living wage" while paying off their ridiculous college loan.
A couple of additional issues:
1- In an effort to increase production/save money, "High Tech" continues to attempt to "Dumb down" the necessary skill/knowledge through AI and ever more "apps" that frequently lead to "garbage" outcomes when novice recently graduated project managers "blindly" depend on these "conveniences" and they unknowingly FAIL only to be discovered many steps further into the project when little can be done "correctly" to correct the error.
2- Being a "good" tradesman requires skill, learned knowledge, constant focus, and pride in your work. Every one of those five things, in 2023, is in very short supply among those who are even considering entering "the trades". Unless you grow up in a "skilled" environment, kids going through school in the 21st century certainly ARE NOT even exposed to Construction as a possible career. The "best" craftsmen have a natural talent for the skill they practice. In 2023, how would anyone even know if they might have that talent??? Besides all of that, with the advent of the cell phone, the computer, millions of "apps", everyone prior to "working life" has turned their brain and their ambition over to these digital devices to the point that NO-ONE wants to work. "IT'S ALL SUPPOSED TO BE EASY !!!!
