Ortis Deley - The Legend (Jessica Ennis Goodnight Soccer AM)

We meet again now with the Olympics on

12 years on and I still regularly come by to hear how it has been a gloriously sunny day inside the studio and that we have seen some action.

Ortis mentioned on a podcast that he didn't prepare well enough for the role. Came back home early after being sacked and then lost his Gadget Show role as well. Had to borrow money to pay bills and even retrained as a fitness trainer.

Everything I see this guy in, he is a bumbling fool but not in an adorable way. I remember first watching him on cbbc way back in early 00s. How he is still going as a presenter is beyond me. Another instance from this world championships that I remember from watching live, this guy saying 'umm, erm LEO Usain Bolt' and Michael Johnson looking at him with utter disdain

Love that Jess referenced this in her Instagram stories the other day (pic of her post-run looking exhausted with the caption 'Jessica Ennis Goodnight 😂). His presenting stint was a total calamity. I think he was being distracted by talking in his earpiece while at the same time being a total slave to the autocue and not really hearing what he was saying.

Not sure he's ever recovered from this whole debacle. I would say it was nerves. Because he'd been on tv for years prior to this coverage.

Don't think Ortis even had one iota of experience presenting live sport.

For the past 7 years, whenever I mess up a task (which is often), I mutter "Jessica Ennis.....Goodnight" to myself. Almost automatically without thinking.

His 'performance' was the highlight of these Championships for me. Positive discrimination at it's finest, the guy who did the highlights show was miles better (who eventually replaced him), but Channel 4 wanted the brownie points for having a black main presenter.

When this was on live I was curled up in ball on the verge of a heart attack. Even now it brings tears to my eyes

I watched all the coverage live, I think he was shelved after 2 days - was some of the most excruiciating viewing ive ever seen.

I found this hilarious don't get me wrong, but this was NOT Ortis's fault. He needs years of LIVE programming experience before he should be allowed to present such a high calibre even. Baptism of fire...all Channel 4's fault

@MrHellface666 Years upon years behind the camera regarding another subject. Clearly you've never seen the Gadget Show live. Stick MJ/Sue Barker/any sky sports news presenter on the gadget show, pre taped or not they would absolutely suck at it. You have to know what you're talking about to be able to present it well. Basic skills really but if you don't understand then I'm wasting my time. Nothing you can say will change my opinion so don't waste your time.

This what happens when you bring in awesome presenters and stick them away from what they're used to. Watch the Gadget Show. Ortis is a fantastic presenter and this was a test for him. Lets see any joe public step out of their comfort zone(behind the screen)and present well on your first go at live athletics. Sod off. Ortis Deley, I salute you.

@SnatchFever I did repost a long video of them, but Channel 4 kept blocking it. Oddly this has been allowed to stay. Maybe its length means it falls into some fair-use licence?

It's painful (though I have to admit very funny!) to see someone struggling so badly! Who amongst us hasn't had that bum tightening feeling when it is going wrong for us and the more we try the worse it gets.

''Jessica Ennis..Goodnight'' will now become the official phrase for closing a statement or Comment.. i have felt sorry for Otis and truly it goes down as a learning experience..but i believe he will come back stronger.... i have also had a good laugh at the comedic aspects of it all and am sure when the dust settles he will look back and have a smile about it too....
