Hiii Amyyyyyy, OMGGGGG you have uploaded this video on the right time! Ive watched most of the videos you mentioned in the starting just because i saw 'effortlessly', i remember when my grades were falling and everyone i used to watch these kinds of videos because i didn't want to work and was looking for a shortcut. And how you said in the video that 'we all know deep down what we need to do to get straight A's' which is so true because most of the time people avoid doing those things wondering if they'd fit in or not. My friend got bullied because she always used to get A's no matter what and its actually really sad because many kids stop studying thinking it would make them look cool. I relate so much to the first story, back in 7th grade we started doing physics and i knew nothing about it at the beginning we had a really good teacher but after a few months he left, and when the new teacher came i wouldn't understand anything from her and i think one of the main reasons for that was also my carelessness because my classmates used to say 'we will never understand anything she's saying' i started saying it too and ultimately i actually ended up not understanding a single thing while the kids who still studied despite the fact everyone said she wasn't a good teacher got really marks( i love how you focus so much on the mindset!)Also one thing I would like to say is that many students also lack behind when other people say they wont be able to do something (just my observation).

And its actually a really good advice to ask what you did wrong on your test, i usually do that like most of the time but this time i when i got low marks in urdu which i never have, i went to my teacher to ask her what i did wrong, but because she was mad at me (she thought that i was blaming her for cutting my marks) she didn't tell me so when i went home i went through every single word i wrote on the test and made a sperate sheet for all the mistakes i made so I don't make them in my finals.

Amyyy, despite the fact you had those migraines and you still worked hard reminds me the quote 'if you want something you'll work towards it no matter what'. You truly deserved to go to Caltech and get all those amazing results you got for the work and effort youve put in.

Amyyy you are such an inspiration for meeee! I love your videos so much and how hard working you are!

I love the way you explain things, this was very helpful. I was a scholarship/competitive student all through primary and middleschool, until I started slacking in yr11&12 which had its consequences. The things you said about taking initiative and not making excuses are so true, and was probably the defining reason to why my grades dropped, compared to when I would actively seek out resources to boost my understanding (even going the extra mile to memorize all the contents I could get my hands on, which seems crazy to me now.) Although my extreme eating disorder played a role in the "downfall", in the end it was about the lack of initiative--- I was studying but not really 'caring' about my grades. With my mental health recovering, I'm hope uni would be the redemption arc haha allthough Ed is still a bitch.

Me with a dream of getting into Stanford for MS , who is average like even after working hard, the best grade I could achieve is a C+. I have friends who are highly competitive, scoring straight As in all exams. Additionally, I struggle with two mental disorders.

HMM.... one last try 🙂🙂

Also, remember your worth doesn't depend on your grades. I personally do not get all As, and I don't take all honors/AP classes, but I try my best, and I enjoy my classes, which is what matters to me. I am a junior in high school, and I personally know my goal is to attend a local school, and keep a strong GPA (doesn't have to be perfect), just to increase my chances of receiving some financial aid.

I just took a Physics test this afternoon, and I really struggled. But no matter what score I get, I will be proud of myself, because I really studied for that test and paid attention in class, even going in to get extra help. Whatever happens, happens, and I know I will be able to go over the test afterwards and find out what I did wrong.

I’m a 30yr/o Puerto Rican woman from Chicago who’s no longer in school. Nonetheless, I find your advice to be incredibly refreshing, realistic/attainable and it appears to be able to transcend time and various challenges in life (not just school). I’m hoping to be able to implement your advice to my life and veer away from this dilatory nature I’ve somehow come to embrace. Thank you

This is one of the best advice videos I’ve watched, and I’ve seen a lot! You were very real and to the point. This is also the first video of yours that I’ve seen, and I thought it was great! Also, I wish I could’ve seen this video 3 or more years ago because at the end of high school and through college, I faced bad teachers and other circumstances. But unlike you, I let it define what grades I got. Through experience, I now know everything you said and did in the video. So, although your video was not new information to me, it does serve as a wake up call.

Advice for those who feel like they need a book to succeed: there are sites that exist (ahem, libgen, scihub, ahem) where you can download and access an online copy for free. Is it legal? It's about as legal as streaming content from someplace dubious. So much knowledge is at our fingertips, ya'll.

I may be a bit overemotional here, but you have no idea how much almost every single one of your words resonated with me in this video. I had been watching a lot of other videos where they state the steps, but none of them were/ felt as real as yours. Your honesty and transparency made it easy for us to understand the point you're trying to make, and able to connect to it on a more spiritual level. Thank you SO much, Amy, you're a life saver! I'm going to get those B's and then A's! (Trying not to set myself up high toi much here lol Love U ❤!)

With all of these great tips, I have to ask you, 1. how old were you throughout college? 2. What is your relationship like with your family? and 3. Did you work any jobs? If you did (or even if you didn’t and you just had many classes at once) do you have a video about how to balance many time commitments and assignments or tasks? PLEASE link it to my comment.

Hey Amy,
I am a returning adult student online, and looking at all sorts of videos to help me maintain my GPA, that might help as I progress when I come across your video. And you have a lot of solid, no-BS advice. Thank you for that.
However, I really wanted to say thank you for talking about the migraines. I don't have them, my niece does. Whenever she gets them, she is in agony and it just hurts me to see it. I live with family and I have helped take care of her since she was a toddler, and she developed them at around 5 years old. A lot of people don't understand how debilitating a migraine can be. I loved this about the video. Thank you!

An add-on the AP note for any high schoolers: even if you don't have a very good teacher for your particular subject, see if there's another teacher at your school who is also somewhat knowledgeable in that field. For example, I took statistics my junior year, but my school didn't offer the class as an AP course - if you wanted to take the test, you had to study for it on your own. I knew if I could pass the AP stats exam, it would save me time and money because stats was a GE I needed for my major. I asked a couple different math teachers around my school to work with me, not just my statistics teacher, and some of them were very useful because even if they weren't experts on AP stats, they taught other AP math courses, like AP calc, with similar test taking strategies and formats. I did pass the exam thanks to all of their help.

I had terrible migraines at your age. You’re a high achiever and one of your triggers could be stress and/or anxiety. Magnesium supplements and prayer, stress management will help. I no longer have them unless I have too much caffeine. Praying God heals you too! You’re amazing, great job on your work ethic! ❤

Hi amy! Thank you for making this video, I really appreciate it. I recently just got a D in my last maths exam and so I have been feeling down. Its taken a toll on my self esteem but instead of studying over the holidays and trying to better myself I've been procrastinating and watching tv. This video was a wakeup call for me. I need to get off my ass, stop the self pity and actually put in the work. I get A*s sometimes, but they are not consistent because I rely a lot on my natural intelligence and study at the last minute. I go back to school next week. Do you think I should make a study timetable and start studying in school, like on lunch breaks? Do let me know ❤

Thank you, I have been doing worse and worse lately and I finally decided to implement everything I have learned, and through you I found myself more motivated. I had been a straight A student since elementary school up to highschool and currently, I am doing bad. Actually, I graduated as valedictorian when I was in elementary and since lockdown, my grades plummeted and I became second in 7th grade. I did regain it by 8th grade, becoming first again but I was strained— for some reason. I am doing worse right now and I really want to be the best of myself. And by doing that, I realized I had to put down my pride and actually learn to adapt everything I learned — tips and all that — into my routine. I thank you so much for giving me tips and a reality check that not everything will go by my way. I always procrastinate because in my mind I will always be one step ahead but I realize how stupid that is— thank you for making me realize of my idiocy. I am very inconsistent but I am determined now. My biggest disadvantage is probably my memory because I often forget everything, so I try to write down everything I thibk that is important but even so, it still hinders me badly. But I realize now that it can be one of my greatest advantage, thank you very much. Though I may not be in college, I have very big ambitions and goals I would really like to achieve this year— no, rather, goals I WILL achieve this year. I will not let myself have the benefit of the doubt, I realize how important the tiniest bits are. I am in 9th grade and my goal is to graduate as valedictorian and maintain a With Highest Honor (which is like A+ lol), it's big but I believe I can do it. Thank you again :).
