I love how Tara is predicting Gurney returning and Andrew is desperately trying to change the subject, so as not to subconsciously spoil it.

pauls naming scene is actually Paul manipulating them. paul knew what the mouse was named and knew it meant the one who points the way. he intentionally chose that name knowing it would manipulate the people like stilgar and eventually lead to him gaining power

Honestly the biggest revelation, for me, I received from the book and Villeneuve’s adaptation was that fact that in reality, Dune was/is a horror story, with tragic fates for nearly all of it’s characters. Also, the true main character of Frank Herbert’s Dune series, is indeed Humanity itself; it is the human horror story, its condition, it’s reoccurring nature, and it ever evolving—- and at times, terrifying potential, which stretches across the stars, and embraces the possibilities of life itself, as it attempts to escape from stagnation and eventual self-annihilation. However, in order for this human story to be fully realized, which it’s characters are used to embody the depth and complexity and complicated essence of the Human Experience, the narrative must shape many of the main characters, and their factions, on ill-fated paths, which seem enviable —-that conveys the message of a warning: whenever radical belief, and fear are given their full measure, they can shape the future, shake the very foundations of existence, and perpetuate circumstances, which may bound humanity indefinitely, or may lead to it’s eventual escape from existential extermination, it’s all in how that radical belief and fear are used—— and whom indeed uses them.

Justice for Chani! Imagine as an Indigenous person you fall in love with a your oppressor (loveable tho he may be) who proceeds to take over your tribe and sends them all to their deaths in a "Holy War" not only that, but he marries another "more appropriate" woman...then he has the nerve to tell you he loves you before he does it all...😳. It kills me that no one ever mentions how effed up this is for her. No one ever shows any empathy for the indigenous character. Like Chani is supposed to be "the noble savage" and die. I'm glad they didn't do that in the film.

I enjoyed watching you guys reactions. No bene gesserit knows their parents. So there was not way Jessie would have known. I love how the director baited viewers into cheering for Paul. At the end of the day Paul is still part of colonization. He even sided with the Empire at the end of the movie. He is from royalty. He was taught by his father how to be a leader. He was trained by his mother on how to manipulate people, especially people who were not born into his rank. He would have been taught the Freemen's language, customs and beliefs. We were told millions of people will die bacause to his decisions . Yet many people still cheered him on because we were told he is the chosen one. There were clues though the director put in. Chani believe their messiah should be from her own people, not an outsider. She represented the moral compass in this movie. And the author Frank Herbert wrote the book as a cautionary story about the dangers of following charismatic figures.

Tara and Andrew, Let's Gooooo. I was just in the mood to rewatch Dune 2 so why not see a reaction instead. Always a good time seeing Andrew and his informative pov. Unfortunate about the Covid miss for Tara, as seeing it in the theater was cool, but, the amazingness still stands up no matter how you see it. Best Movie of the Year as far as I'm concerned. Denis did it right. Everything just hits, acting, action, music, editing, the innovations they did, and just adapting High Sci Fi, such a complicated world and book into a cohesive and digestible form is Amazing.
I'm like.. .make a roller coaster that makes you think you are riding the worm, it'd be amazing.
Ooh, Apocalypse now reference, that makes so much sense, didn't think of that before.
Anyways, the journey is incredible and I'm glad to watch two peeps who feel it fully. Next sequel should be amazing since it sounds like Denis literally storyboarded these when he was a kid basically. Beyond that tho.. well.. it will be very challenging given.. um everything, lol.
Thank you both for your reactions. It's always a thing to put yourself out there and be yourselves with how the internet is.

After Paul drinks the water of Life he can clearly see every possible future coming from his choices.
I don't think it's ever explicitly stated, but his need to follow the path that leads to war with the great houses makes me think if he doesn't, then the harkonnens will wipe out the fremen entirely

If I remembevr the books correctly, the way groups of Fremen got on the worms was one rider would capture and hook onto a worm, then circle it back and coax the worm do a slow pass and to start a slow rolling motion that would allow others to hook and be lifted off the dessert floor onto the worm in an efficient way.

FYi, reason lasers aren't more common, apparently in Dune's universe, if a laser hits a shielded target, both the spot that fired the laser and the shield detonate like nuclear bombs.

The next movie should cover just the second book, maybe a little more. Not sure after that, but honestly, as the story goes, it gets weird.

The sandworms are forced to the surface when they expose their soft flesh with the hooks. They stay on the surface and roll to put the "wounds" on top, away from the sand. When they load up as a group, one gets on and steers it to a dune so the rest can jump on.

Nothing will hold Paul back, especially Chani. He's been humble the entire time. He sees all possible futures, so every decision he makes is calculated to be certain he doesn't lose and that his loved ones survive. They may not like his choices, but they are the only ones that do not end in the destruction of the Fremen and House Atreides.
