I have an antique "twijfelaar" which is a bed suitable for 1 adult and a kid or 1 very large person, or two small adults. and it has one side against the wall, but the foot and head of the bed don't touch walls.

I’m sorry but being two tiny people and I had an apartment on 25sqm, so no space for a double bed. We did actually share a single bed for about 2 years and it was pushed into the corner.

We got a king frame with two single mattresses because i already had one single mattress and we're broke college kids.

I set it up so that we both sleep on both mattresses though!

2 single beds is good for partners who need very different beds for sleeping.

i was seeing someone for a bit who was in a wheelshair and needed a lift to help get in bed. he had a double bed, which was great for cuddling, but actually going to bed and stuff i slept in a separate bed, so when he needed to get up to use the restroom, he could use the lift easier without accidentally hitting me with it, or landing on me.

Personally I think beds that aren't pushed against walls feel more vulnerable, or agoraphobic. Weird

Hence why my bed has two night tables and they purposely aren’t twins! The are similar, but distinct.
