netstat is a good way to monitor connections as well but you could set this up on a workstation and leave it for an hr or two running in the background then come back and check the log file without the worry of the operator closing a running window.

Thanks brian :-) Didnt know win7/vista did that, hmm :-) For my old system i installed a driver level firewall, and you would be supprised how many of your installed packages run off to the net without telling you or even asking at all !!. Im no lover of software ringing home with god knows what info about my pc, so i have my firewall as tight as a ducks arse!!, all the things i deem normal now have a limited access rule, not an open door like windys firewall. Smashing tip mate :-)
