You cannot MIG without gas, period. Metal Inert Gas is a process not a welder type. The type of welder is wire feed

My dads welds look like popcorn and the neighbors think it’s the gas but his doesn’t require gas but he says it’s the electricity even tho it’s the same one that goes to truck lights but knows 🥴

I mig all the time without gas and I have never had a problem.. Most of the projects that I do are not hyper critical for structural stability and or great looking work so it doesn't really matter.. But I will say that I do like laying a bead with the gas because it looks 100 times better than not having the gas.. I am in the mechanical - electrical field so I get to fab up alot of stands, cages, and basic structural supports for conduit, transformers, feeds, panels and disconnects and most of the time I can tack weld everything together and lay a bead, clean it up and move on to the next thing.. I do alot of quick and dirty/easy fabrication but I will make it look good when I know it will be in a heavy traveled area.. When I know the welding work that I am doing will be seen by anyone I use gas because it is a night and day comparison when using and not using gas..

Would have been fairer if nozzle facing weld was done on both not just gas one which got more heat.

Folks, the only useful purpose of this video is to demonstrate what happens when you are welding with a standard GMAW (MIG) process, and for some reason you lose your gas coverage. Either your tank runs out, or you are in a stiff breeze, or a shop fan is blowing your way, whatever the reason. Lets not get our panties in a bunch.

Did you change the wire? I seen no smoke on the gas less flux core looks like you just use flux core duel shield and turned the gas off so if so just would show what it look like if you ran out of gas! My point is gas less flux core is different from duel shield that requires gas co2 or 75/25 !

This is useful for a novice. I've got a gas/gasless mig welder and I have switched from flux core to gas using a hobby gas canister. There's no gauge on it so it's nice to see from this video whether the gas is running or not by the quality and sound of the weld. It's a small canister so I don't want it to waste the gas so there's a fine margin of when it is on or not. It's on 0.9mm steel so I don't need too much penetration but gas is much cleaner. Cheaper to watch this vid than waste a ton of gas. Thanks

I've been using fluxcore for years now on home truck stuff etc and thinking of finally switching to c25 setup.

Interesting chemical response with and without gas which makes it easy to know if you run out and would also need to switch back to fluxcore to finish weld if you don't have a spare tank or time to refill.

Im pretty good without the gas but with gas would be cleaner which equates to less project time.

Full of crap you can do without gas properly . He took he's time on the first one but the second weld he just rushed it through .if you do clips like this tell the people the truth I've been using without gas for more than 10 years best jobs ever learn to take your time specially when there's no gas available in the island where the welding was done

Not to bash you but welding in different directions with or without gas will produce a visably different weld in general

Thanks, I learned how important it is to use fluxed wire when welding gasless and also to change the welder polarity. You did neither.

I want to use .023 wire but can’t find any that is for flux core, only found for gas. Now I now I can.

buy flux core wire if you don't have gas on hand. Welds great once you get used to it.....like all welding.
