Finishing my first ever shiny hunt (12 years)

when i was kid i was hunting normal moltres and i had only 30 ultra balls in my bag and every time i finish my ultra balls i reset the game and after 40-50~ reset i found a shiny moltres!!!! but with 30 ultra balls i failed and i was so sad... :( that was my first shiny and i didnt know they could exist... i felt so special

My first shing hunt was Ralts in Omega Ruby. It took several days, about 8 hours in-game, and 270 dexnav encounters before getting a true beautiful blue Ralts, and she became a powerful blue Gardevoir who could mega evolve.

In older generations (where struggle doesn't do massive self-damage), you can just throw balls at full health pokemon and you're nearly guaranteed to capture them before they die since the base chance is actually rather high all things considered. Any ball works, even the completely basic one is good enough, although better balls are obviously better and sleep/para are also nice but not mandatory.
This is still mostly true in the newer games, although if they have a bunch of low PP moves and start struggling early you might get unlucky and doing it the usual way would give you appreciably better capture chances.

You could have used Vigoroth for your shiny hunting. It can learn both Yawn and False swipe so no need for switching to other other Pokémon.

I literally remember every shiny i've ever gotten and they were all old game full odds shinies (through general playthroughs).

Though there was the first pokemon i had attempted to shiny hunt and i'd spent months on and off at a time (spanning years since) attempting it (Rayquaza in pokémon ruby). Ruby was my first pokemon game and Rayquaza was my favourite pokemon.

I had been playing Ruby for so long that I had to cut out the old battery and replace it with a new one. I also realised at one point I was trying to shiny hunt a static encounter with broken rng due to the dead battery (a few weeks into a session), so yay wasted effort.

I was around 10 when i dabbled in shiny hunting Rayquaza but only took it seriously last year (i was 26) and was in a state of confusion when it finally popped up.

i could do the same thing with my shiny fennekin hunt, probably like 8 years in the works? not even a thousand encounters but thats because i always give up so easily lmao

Raise it to lv87 and it learns skyattack adamant nature no problem

You realize they still sell gba devices in places like g2k games and other stores that are similar I say similar stores bc I'm fairly sure most stores or region exclusive so it changes state to state which stores operate where

I’ve been hunting, Charmander, Dunsparce, and Abra on fire red for the last 5 years and I’ve still never caught or seen a shiny in Pokémon in FireRed

in pokemon emerald, after trading and battling with plenty of soft resets i got in total 21 shiny legendaries, im pretty sure thats EVERY legendary possible, including mew mewtwo lugia latios and latias ho-oh zapdos moltres articuno and all the others
just the other day i completed the emerald pokedex and got the long awaited pokedex completion diploma from game freak, this took me a while, no clue how long but lets just say its been a very long time and i had a TON of friends and other games that i had to trade with to finish it

funny i also left a Moltres hunt unfinished but mine was like 5 years ago, i did it first when i restarted my fire red file then just got bored of resetting until i finally picked it back up some days ago, got it then just did hypnosis + ultra ball spam lol

This reminds me of when I caught my shiny Giratina in Platinum. I didn't have a Master Ball anymore (I started this hunt in the endgame, when I first encountered Giratina in the story I just defeated it) so I decided to just try catch in a regular red and white Poke Ball. Why make it so hard for myself you might ask, well I just think it's the best looking poke ball that's all. Anyway I found after about 1000 SRs and succesfully captured it with a regular Poke Ball.

these videos really inspire me to revive/start hunts. maybe ill pick up the shiny oshawott hunt from white 2 that's kept me company for 6 years. or maybe hunt the full odds random graveller that exploded on me in soul silver. ive got so much time to waste.

Started watching your videos and decided to catch a Shiny Trapinch on AS. 30 minutes of hunt i caught a Shiny Sandshrew. I guess its ok for my First Shiny of all time.

the pp thing is why i used 2 snorlax with thick fat and maxed pp yawns, even at level 30 which is when u catch em they can tank moltres's hits so it's just a matter of healing with a lemonade every now and then
