ОтветитьI wonder if a magnified projectile would be significant for increasing power transfer into the projectile. You'd be able to flip polarity once the phototransistor is triggered and push the projectile out of the coil into the next one.

wouldn't be better to use 18v batteries from tools like Ryobi or bosh or... Why not having the first stages having the detector after the coil and the last ones before the coil so that you are less influenced by the speed of the comutation ?

u didnt get the power from batteries first because of current discharge
pretty sure the main freakin reason is the voltage
by the graphics u showed
by the time u detect, the coil will have already been pulling the projectile back

Looking at your schematics (thanks for sharing), you need some help on making them presentable. The flow should be left to right, I redrew it and so much easier to read. And one simple mod does both schematics in one.

ОтветитьYour loosing power on the projectile with that design. You should instead consider moving the photo receptor to before the coil and building in a delay.
That way when the projectile gets a third of the way through the coil, the coil shuts down and the next coil activates, the magnetic field should be large enough to extend into the previous coil. This way there is no drag on the projectile and even better. The next coil in the sequence starts pulling the projectile forward before it even exits the previous coil.
This does complicate your design, requiring you to calculate a delay and propagate that delay calculation with each stage, the trade-off, however, is more power and a more efficient design.
i never had to do nothing like this i just soldered wires from a 12v onto a aluminum tube i wrapped in copper and silver wires and i put neodymiums in an accelerated series (decreasing distance between them until end of barrel.
and then i made a magnet to hold the projectile (chopped nickel aluminum wire) right outside the threshold of the attracting forces - then made the trigger mechanically slide a repelling magnet towards it to loose the projectile into the array. all this PCB nonsense is too complicated for me.
perhaps, given testing and tweaking, your probably lasts for way more shots than mine does - mine doesnt control the output, so its probably going to be very strong at first and then weaken as the battery cycles.
however, i could probably use some sort of conductive assembly to gather the energy back into the device since i dont think its all going into the projectile. its probably going into the air a bit - along with a solar panel, it could probably recycle energy - i also thought of using a gyroscopic flywheel - some childrens toys were these yo-yos that had gyroscope powered batteries - the wasted potential energy and kinetic force generated by the acceleration reaction could maybe be recycled? i dont know enough - but different designs always have different problems

ОтветитьVery nice. However, i would have put the IR sensor at the front of the coil rather than the end. You lose acceleration as it's leaving the coil before it gets shut off. So, taking into account the slight delay in the electronics components, and the fact that the sensor sees the projectile at the beginning of the coil, you would most likely gain tremendous acceleration without loss. Perhaps having the IR sensor adjustable, you could find the optimal position for each individual coil. You probably wouldn't need more than 4 or 5 coils to create a supersonic projectile.

ОтветитьI couldn't agree more about them capacitors i took a plasma tv apart that had been in none working fir 6 months i learned my lesson by getting zapped by 1 . Im not competent enough to do electronic work so il leave it to you mate 👍

ОтветитьYou can improve the speed by not just turning off the source of current fast , remember that the magnetic field doesn't cease instantaneously when you switch off the source of current, current will keep flowing in the wire and through the reverse diode making the magnetic field stay there for milliseconds ... your can "discharge" the coil faster if you user the correct zenner diode and a resistor instead a simple diode, so you will make a faster dissipation of energy in the resistor and zenner

ОтветитьOkay, we may be onto something here. An over-and-under Coil Gun / High Powered Laser Weapon. We'll need to scale up quickly though. We'll probably need about 2 billion within the next 30 days or so. lol This world isn't looking so good.

ОтветитьFun project, if you could improve your timing, you'd get much faster projectile speeds, as well as lowering the ESR of your capacitors. Your caps all have a fairly high ESR, so they cannot discharge much of their energy to benefit the projectile velocity.
ОтветитьJust a suggestion, add a chrono graph (for projectile speed) at some point you will hit the speed limit for your discharge circuitry the chronograph will give you exit speed to monitor so you can see if each coil is actually linear or fine spacing needs to be adjuste, also years ago points ignition systems in cars used a condenser capacitor to force the magnetic field collapse at high engine rpm, which is the same principle as your projectile speed increases so your chronograph may be able to show you that “speed” limit as well

ОтветитьDamn that's intense! It would be so hard to dial in the stacked modules would it make any sense to have one long solenoid with a timed current limiter or some kind of gradual winding pattern? I'm sure there's a reason why all coil guns are designed the same just curious if there are any other design variations out there
ОтветитьDu hast da etwas falsch gemacht, den Fototransistor und diese LED kannst Du abhaken, das wird nicht gebraucht. Abgeschaltet wird die Spule, wenn das Projektil genau ihre Mitte überquert. Diesen Zeitpunkt kann man am Strom und der Spannung der Spule erkennen, und genau dann wird sie abgeschaltet und die nächste Spule schaltet ein, das ist wesentlich effektiver. So kann man eine Spule gleich an die vorige anbauen und das Projektil verliert nicht zwischendurch an Geschwindigkeit. Statt des Fototransistors wird dafür ein anderer genommen, wie das genau funktioniert verrate ich Dir nicht. Da musst Du schon von alleine draufkommen ... 😎
