With its sleek, menacing twin-engine design merging seamlessly into a streamlined fuselage, the McDonnell XF-88 Voodoo was a revolutionary marvel of the late 1940s, born from the minds of visionary engineers at McDonnell Aircraft.

The XF-88 boasted unprecedented agility and power, designed as the ultimate bomber escort—a supersonic watchdog of the skies, ready to shepherd bombers to their targets and back.

First taking flight in October 1948, the XF-88 initially underperformed. But McDonnell's engineers pressed on, equipping the second prototype with afterburners. This leap forward catapulted the Voodoo to new heights, surpassing rivals and reaching speeds over 1,207.6 miles per hour, making it the fastest aircraft on Earth in the 1950s.

However, the shifting Cold War landscape soon pivoted Air Force priorities from bomber escorts to interceptors, seemingly sealing the Voodoo's fate.
McDonnell refused to let their creation fade. Through a bold redesign, the F-101 Voodoo emerged—larger, faster, and more powerful. With Pratt & Whitney J57 turbojets and an iconic T-tail, the F-101 redefined aerial supremacy.

From bomber escort to nuclear strike plane to ultimate reconnaissance aircraft, the Voodoo endured. When America faced the threat of nuclear annihilation, it was the F-101 that stood ready to save the day.

Well the German Axial - Flow jet engines were copied from the designs and data published by British scientist AA Griffith who designed these engines from 1923. He and the British thought these engines dangerous, high maintenance and low power, and this was true as it was not until the 1950 that power output and reliability matured. The XF-88 was not supersonic due to low power engines, it was the F-101 that achieved Mach 1.72 at 36,000ft. This was achieved in 1956 with 2 x Pratt & Whitney J-57 jet engines.

That "wing" is on the drone, "wing-man" that's supposed to be a helper to the F-35/ & 22, I believe. That "Same shaped" wing is prevalent amongst many newer aged aircraft.

You have A, B, and C models all mixed together and not differentiating between them. All 101's with 2 crew members are either 101B or 101F models. The F is a B with pilot controls in the rear seat.

Noboby do the Voodoo like you do. It was a sharp looking plane. Be nice to have 1 operational for air shows.
