The hungarian population in Romania is not "seizable", the Romanians were a majority even then. It was t a hungarian population, but a hungarised one. Remember the politics of Hungary of imposing its language and even of changing birth names of the other nationalities they occupied.

Not sure how the Hungarians were able to object to or could object to the Austro-Hungarian Empire entering the Franco-Prussian War on the side of France.

See,the compromise of 1867 only gave Hungary control over it's domestic policy/affairs, military policy and foreign affairs were still under Austrian control.

The Franco-Prussian War would be both under the umbrella of both foreign policy and military affairs.

Why Franz Joseph failed to grasp this is beyond me?

A big event that you didn't mention was the death of the Empress Elisabeth in 1898. She was one of the people that helped keep relations between the Emperor and the people.

the multiple languages issues the Austro-Hungarian army had was brought up, in all places, in my [US] high school English class when were were doing a classroom reading of "All's Quiet on the Western Front." My teacher was saying that the squad non-com army officer would have to speak about a dozen difference languages when giving out order to his troops. A simple command, such as "Fall Out!" would have to be repeated 12 times in different languages for all the soldiers to understand.

When thinking back to that a half-century ago, I have to marvel at that female HS English teacher for being good to inform her students about some of the nuances in The Great War; such as with the language issues with the A-H army.
Another aspect I vividly recall from her English class was how she got her students aware of the Imperial German Army's fortifications on the Western Front, as they were well dug-in with well-built fortifications, and not just trenches.
