That mic sounded like a loose connection or a short. Things to try in order of likelihood & cost: 1: Label all your cables, mics and input connections so you can figure out what the common element is.
2: Clean connectors w alcohol & swabs. Look for debris on the mic diaphram. 3: Reflow any solder connections that can be done non-destructively. Use lead tin solder. 4: Replace cables. 5: Replace the cheaper of the mic or whatever the mic cable plugs into. 6: Replace whatever you didn't replace in #5.

Replace here means try a different equivalent device. TR and TRS (look like headphone plugs) connectors are extremely suspect. The plating on the jacks and plugs wear quickly and most are very cheaply made. You want XLR connectors if you need a quiet connection. Many pro lapel mics have connectors that are 10 times the size of the mic itself. You can make better mic cables than you can buy. Just get XLR connectors with a metal housing and some decent shielded twisted pair wire (you can spend more for more flexible wire if it suits you). Solder the connections (use 40/60 lead tin rosin core solder) on each end and screw the shells together. I have cables I made this way more that 40 years ago that still work perfectly.

Cool, interesting to see the workings of this lens and your opinion on whether to buy one. I would have liked it for my drinks advert last week but as you guys say I doubt I would have had much use for it on other films. Love the eyeballs and iris change though for shock and awe in horror or comedy:)

To get the best results from that you need to turn off that light, otherwise everything just looks like a colonoscopy.
