Agree with you on the Jinhao #8 nib and converter. Nice review.
ОтветитьI have one in red and one in green and agree with you totally on the nib. I wondered if it would take a #8 nib in in exchange?
ОтветитьI so much appreciate that you don't want to rain on peoples' pen parade. After all, thoughtful pen buyers come to channels like yours, to either help them decide to purchase a pen, or to confirm that they made a good decision on a pen they've already bought. Not only do you provide a wealth of knowledge, but you present it in a very pleasant, welcoming way.
ОтветитьJust bought this pen in Green.
ОтветитьI was tempted to get this pen a while ago. I thought though that the weight was a bit excessive and the nib should be larger for such a pen. That the nib works well is a plus. But I think I will pass.
I know Jinhao has some "paper weight" worth y pens but they are very ornate. Perhaps Hero or Duke?
I just bought this pen stand!
ОтветитьWanted to buy this...just because...but I realized how much I disliked the weightiness of the Jinhao 159 when I got it a few years back. Going to pass.
ОтветитьGreat video. On the subject of feeds, can only jinhao feeds be used in jinhao pens? And do all jinhao pens use the same feed? I mean, how interchangeable are feeds across pen brands 😊
ОтветитьI unscrewed the grip section of a (spare) black X159 and it fit perfectly fine on the metal pen. Easy way to upgrade to a #8 nib.
ОтветитьAn interesting review Chris. I have a red version of this big metal (heavy) pen. Not sure if you would find it interesting - I recently acquired another big pen off of Ebay billed as "Long Stock Rare Vintage CHINA HUASHI 90 Fountain Pens Oversize Pen Have Box". It's listed as NOS that had been sitting in a warehouse. It's just about as big as the reviewed pen, but slightly less weighty. It writes decent enough, and it was less than $15.00.
ОтветитьInformative as always .
Curious if the sections threads would match up with a pilot custom urushi barrel. I love the nib but it is a bit light like your Wing sung 590 which has a built in squeeze filler.
Thanks for another informative review. The section looked nicely chunky to me and that feather on the nib was very attractive. Ive purchased a few pens with #8 nibs and i have to admit that i prefer the #6. And since so many of my pens have #6 nibs, I have lots of options for nib swaps. I always appreciate that you enjoy each pen for what it is. I do exactly the same. That looked like a good black ink as well.
ОтветитьOh, boy.
A Pilot 845 "homage?"
😬😬😬
Well. . .the black finish on the brass kind of looks like the urushi lacquer on the 845? . . .🤦🏻
If an iterative "inspiration" is the objective, perhaps more attention to detail helps.
Appreciate your review, but I can tell you that it would not work for me after owning the original 🖋️, which is NOT always true of 🇨🇳 homage 🖋️ (e.g., Wing Sung 630).
Old school Chinese manufacturing, but compliments to the designer for those lovely subtle curves.
ОтветитьGreat review! I have one of these pens, in green. I have yet to ink it. I think I will after watching your review. Interesting factoid about the Wing Sung 590. I found them on Amazon in around 2015 or 2016. Apparently a pallet of these pens was forgotten about in a warehouse in the 1990s and only discovered some 20 years later. They were put on the market and I bought three of them. I like them. They have a classic style and mine have aeromatic fillers. I found their story as intriguing as I much as I enjoy writing with them.
ОтветитьReviews like this, about pens newcomers to the hobby/passion can risk adding to their collection, are why I refer newcomers to your channel. Thanks!
ОтветитьFor me it is a case of a cross between two: it is neither a dog nor a cat. If someone wants this design, it would be much better to save for the original Pilot 845 or some more successful copy of it. If someone wants a big and low cost pen, Jinhao 9019 - especially with a heartbeat nib - is just perfect, one of the most pleasant nibs I have. This pen with #8 nib and a big converter - maybe, but in the current form to my eyes is a failed attempt.
ОтветитьChris, Do you know what pens will take a #6 Bock nib please?
