the only big issue with that technique is the big phase in the crossfade between the bands. a dynamic eq will be more accurate and less phase.

Extremely helpful. This is my secret trick that I employ on my kick drum track in my mix, I use the Waves C4 on just the sub part in expansion mode.

i assume it’s common practice to level match after you’ve dialed in the settings? or is this thought of as a means to an end in the limiting stage?

Amatuer mix. Sounds muddy as hell. I can tell amp sims were used. Terrible guitar mud and thin tone. Theres way too much low end in the kick and bass plus the bass is out of phase clearly heard that over rides everything else in the mix. Why are you teaching? oh thats right everyones an expert. Ive done this for 19 years and mixed many metal bands but we dont give our hard years work away. You give yours away because it isnt worth anything.
