Nothing about the play that lasts TWO god damn episodes ? That play has like unlimited amout of budget and set pieces while also underlining every single thing on the serie, wtf. During the play Lexi becomes mean for some reason, because the witers needed her to be mean. This was a neverending extremely awkward shit show.

I finally watched this, and yeah it was fine. It wasn’t as good as I was expecting it to be, kind of feel like there are a lot of loose ends. It was OK. I think if I had to wait a week for each episode or two years for a new season maybe it would’ve been better, but I binge watched it and it was just OK as a complete series.

The show looks good. A great looking cast portraying cool kids. The imagery. Music soundtrack.
Long slow motion bike rides set to music.
Some viewers wished their old high school days were like this...
But these reviews: I guess Levinson can't put one over on a smart audience. 🤣

Season 1 followed the model of Skins (amazing show…) season where each episode focused on one character and then the last episode had all of the characters coming together. The thing with Skins was that the second season followed the same model, where each episode focused on one character and you really got to see their character development from the last season/ get introduced to new characters / wrap up story lines.
Season 2 of euphoria was all over the place and some characters had major regression (Cassie, Kat…). Also, some storylines were just completely dropped without explanation lol

I actually love the 70s grainy aesthetic. But for this show's season 2? Nope, I'm sorry i didn't. Cz i loved the heavy high definition euphoric electric cinematography of season 1, and missed it in s2.

Rest about the story, whatever everyone is saying, i agree with you!

I'm pretty confident season one was a one-hit wonder. Season two felt like a completely different show.
1) Rue faced NO CONSEQUENCES WHATSOEVER for any of the shit she did this season.
2) WTF happened with Jules? She was my favourite character in s1 and her character arc was by far the most interesting one. By the end of the season it almost felt like they're writing her out of the show. SHE WASN'T EVEN IN LEXI'S FRIGGIN PLAY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.
3) WTF happened with Kat? She too was basically non-existent in this season.
4) Did Cassie have a lobotomy? Also, I'm sick and tired of her oversexualization.
5) I fucking hate Lexi. There, I said it. She's the least fleshed out character and she's bland as fuck.
6) The play was boring, redundant, and not enough of a plot point to drive the story forward.
7) Rue is an addict. WE GET IT ALREADY.
8) Rue's dad died and she is traumatized. WHY do we have to see the exact same scene over and over again? It's not even moving after some point.

People talk about how hard this show can be to watch bc it's so mature, drugs, drinking, sex, etc., all involving teenagers. Yet, none of it feels outlandish compared to actual teenage life. I think what overwhelms people is that they aren't following one kid going through some serious life. You have SEVERAL kids, ALL going through different nuances of serious life, all on screen at once.

I didn't really like the Play episodes at the end. And also I think there was too much of Lexie & Rue this season. At times I found myself thinking how many times are they going to show the same thing and same line again.

Does anyone know what happened to Nate's younger brother? Where is he?

Looking forward to Season 3 but it gas to really be all thought out and planned.

Season 1 defo gave us Euphoria, Season 2 was like meh. There were some good parts though for sure, just not enough excitement at all.

I think the thing is, with season 1 they were just introducing us to characters. There was no overall plot, it was all just character development. This season, unless they wanted to bring in a full new cast of characters, they needed a plot. I agree that the whole maddy Cassie Nate thing was a bit childish at points, but I think all three characters and interesting and acted well. And I think the play episodes are really good, and episode 5 is hands down one of the best episodes of any tv show I’ve ever seen. I don’t think season 2 was disappointing, it was just different and people didn’t like that

One thing that annoys me a lot and that I find overlooked is the amount to which characters cheat and seem to be okay with cheating. Cheating is an incredibly complex and impactful thing, so it’s not that I mind that it happens with (initially) liked characters. Tho it is almost like they throw it in as something to spice up the plot, almost every single fucking episode. While irl, cheating almost always comes back to you in one way or the other, the writers seem to completely ignore it/almost treat it like a normal relationship trait. Cassie cheating on Mckay never ever got mentioned again. Jules cheating on Rue got dropped (what annoys the shit out of me, is the entire fandom still hogging Jules and never mentioning this??). Maddy practically cheating on Nate every “break” they had.
That characters cheat is fine, it usually adds complexity to both character and storyline. But people really have to remember that it’s morally fucked up, one of the easiest things NOT to do if you truly love someone, and there’s almost always a deep reason/root for somebody wanting to hurt their SO like that. Yet we move on believing Jules TRULY loved Rue? Cassie TRULY loved Mckay? Nah, these characters should lack empathy in MANY parts of life were they to cheat irl, yet nothing else seems to truly point to it (at least not with Jules).

I also really want to talk about the fact that nearly every single character seems to condone their friends/family cheating. I swear to god, if I found out my friend/family member cheated, I really would reconsider having them in my life. Yet, the writers, once again, seem to have no fucking clue how it affects people. Even people that don’t want to tell (Lexi covering for Cassie, for example) will have to live with the consequences of keeping a secret like that.

It might be a somewhat small detail. But it is once again, something added in that’s spicy and taboo, with zero consequences. This show really thrives on good cinematography and that’s it.

this show isn’t supposed to be some teen drama ppl, it’s written like a piece of literature with a message. it’s supposed to portray that people are not as simple as we see them. we tend to simplify ppl, and never see them as the same complex, intricate, and vulnerable person we see ourselves as.
