Why would a being capable of creating galaxies and doing almost anything need the gem to destroy a small part of his creation? I find it ridiculous that they set that scene.

What did the rest of the celestials do when another was using the gem, did they sign up for a waiting list so they could use it later? Thanos also got on that list while the marvel movies were going on? Really a stupid and pointless scene, plus who recorded the celestial destroying the planet? Another celestial? Or do all celestials have a drone that records them when they do something dramatic?
