Everybody mentions the Roland D50. But nobody uses or demonstrates the sound "IntruderFX" with aftertouch enabled.
ОтветитьGreat video - part 3?
Ответить"cheap second hand (roland) units"
that was polite way to dodge whole NY power blackout happening
Thanks to your video, I finally found out what the name of the synth that they use in several musics that drive me crazy! It's Fairlight CMI!
Thank you a lot, bro!
no Jupiter 8?
ОтветитьWhat I missed is the Emulator and Emulator II. So they used by the Pet Shop Boys, Ultravox, Genesis, Deep Purple, New Order and Depeche Mode
ОтветитьLets make Ti Sento -Matia Bazar
Ответитьhi! greatly enjoyed both your videos on the 80s synth sounds and really do think your approach to it - showing the synths sounds with the plugins and all really does add interesting info, i particularly had no idea that owner of a lonely heart string attacks were created with the CMI. but id like to provide a short constructive criticism, if your willing to receive some, of course! although your content, as i said, is interesting and captivating, i feel as your thumbnail isn't really. i honestly skipped clicking your video cause the thumb kinda looks a bit generic, or simple, i dont know exactly how to put it - but, basically, i do believe it isn't making the quality of your video translate nicely into a thumb - anyhow, thanks for posting!
ОтветитьWhere do you get your lately bass from?
ОтветитьThank You so much for these wonderful videos: part 1 and part 2! I was curious if you could comment in another video, if possible and or demonstrate the Synclavier keyboards. Also if you could please talk about the Kurzweil keyboards as well as the ARPs and the Moogs too. Thank You again for all your hard and insightful work! Robert from Miami, FL. 😊
ОтветитьThe Fairlight CMI is also used by Kate Bush, and it is featured in her most famous song, Running Up That Hill. It gained popularity due to Stranger Things Season 4.
You should do Part 3! There are a lot more songs to cover such as Blue Monday, Take On Me, Africa, Radio Ga Ga, and the Doctor Who 80s theme.
Which vst did you use for the Lately Bass? I dont remember a TX18Z being in arturia or roland cloud
ОтветитьIs there a preset that sounds like Twin Peaks theme without needing to combine it with the TX7?
ОтветитьI'm going slightly mad as one of my favorite songs by Queen and that were some from the m1 makes it more live
ОтветитьThe DX7 electric piano is very massively used.
ОтветитьMega cool vidddd
ОтветитьI don't play any instruments but I always wondered if there was a model of synthesizer that would integrate all the existing models, a kind of all in one ?
ОтветитьIs there or will there be a part 3? :)
If yes, please bring more examples than 2-3. :) 8 would be a good amount. :)
Michael Jackson definitely had a Synclavier he showed it to Thomas Dolby when Michael invited him over to his house. Thomas had had a Fairlight and Michael said synclavier is better
Ответитьof course i want more of this! 😃
ОтветитьBeat it was taken from a synclaiver demo. The dude that made the demo is now included in the credits. Wasn't originally. The sound has been sampled in fairlight cmi and the EMU, but it originally comes from the synclaiver.
ОтветитьThe Preset "00 Universe" on the Korg M1 whas used for the beginning of the main title from "Rain Man" H + F#1 + H1
ОтветитьI love that sound from Korg M1 for the Eurodance Hits, thank you for your job !!
Ответитьthanksss so much very good reportage marvellous
ОтветитьHi
Very great presentations.
I'm discovering the the world of VST sounds and you helped me a lot.
If I may, I have three précisions to ask:
- What Arturia Dx7 preset did you use for Rick Astley ebass1
?
- What Arturia CS80 preset did you use for Vangelis - Blade Runner Theme
?
- What Arturia Fairlight CMI preset did you use for Art of Noise - Moments In Love?
Thanks
Best regards
I think you forgot Kraftwerk's The Robots MiniMoog bass sound and their Trans Europe Express Vako Orchestron choir/strings sound.

ОтветитьRest in peace Vangelis 🙏
ОтветитьTR808! Probably my fave thing in this whole list! :)
ОтветитьAnother great video :-)
ОтветитьYou need to cover the very famous Casio CZ-1000 Organ Preset and the Roland JD-990's Thor Preset. Both are used very often in lots of tracks in the 90s
ОтветитьD-50 and Oberheim Matrix 1000 were my two favorite synths from this era. But so many great synths!!! I remember being at the LA Convention Center when the M1 just came out and the Korg guy was demoing it. He did that bit from the movie Jaws and nailed it.
ОтветитьInteresting fact: Roland tr 808 and 909 were popular on early electro and techno scene not because they sounded great but just because they were dirt cheap
ОтветитьGreat videos both from the 80' love that sound , I wish I have a list of most all the classics songs from the 80 ' with the synth they use and also the patches or the presets , do you know if there is any , keep doing this 80 videos , all the best
ОтветитьThe basic sounds of : rythm is a dancer-snap?
ОтветитьOh shoot does Planet Rock use a tr-808 as its drum machine? Because those cowbells really familiar
ОтветитьHard G in Vangelis.
ОтветитьGreat video love that synth
ОтветитьDaft Punk not using MS 20 on this track
Ответитьthis series should have been titled 90s presets, as the vast majority of the most famous 80s patches/presets escaped your knowledge and consequently this mini series. still was fun watching! but it wasnt about the 80s sounds, more about 80s synths being used in 90s music. to me the 90s is where music and the complicated knowledge of music and use of musicians ended.
ОтветитьGreat video!
ОтветитьI knew I heard a voice like yours before. You sound strikingly similar to Werner Herzog, both with pronunciation and voice timbre - that distinct hoarseness. It is very pleasing to listen.
ОтветитьOne that I found back when I had my DX-7, I discovered a patch that I think was called "Tubular Bells". It was an absolute dead ringer for the low-bell sound at the beginning of the Top Gun Anthem track by Harold Faltermeyer. It was an octave F# if memory serves. My DX-7 had some kind of memory expansion in it, so this may not have been in the original DX-7 patches. I should never have sold that keyboard.
