Sony and canon make soul less cameras. I use an XPro3 and Leica Q3. Another superb video. 👍🏻

Interesting video and I agree the X-Pro2 is a fine camera of course, I used one for years. That said, I don’t really agree the “X-Pro2 is enough” point, and as an X-Pro3 owner it’s clear that in reality you don’t either! I doubt many people will really agree that the XP2 maintains the same “organic” quality of the XP1’s images either. Its output is actually quite different, not better or worse in my opinion but certainly not the same at all.

I feel with the X-Pro2, Fuji went all out to try and “fix” problems with the X-Pro1, including the “pro” naming and perceived lack of pro features in the original, so it became a bit of a tech showcase. It did nothing to further the idea or the feeling behind the X-Pro1, only its technical competence - so the autofocus was better, it was weather sealed because “pro” cameras should be, it had dual card slots because that’s what pros want, etc.

The X-Pro3, meanwhile, very much returned to the question of - what is the X-Pro line actually for? Of course it had improved autofocus again, because Fuji had a new sensor at that point and it inherited all those improved abilities, but all of that stuff you could get from an XT3 for less money - and many “pros” did. Instead, with the XP3, Fuji concentrated on the concept behind it and the reasons why you would choose and shoot with an X-Pro camera, and that’s where ideas like the hidden screen came from, and the “film tab” submonitor, and the Classic Neg film sim, and the tweak to autofocus to improve low light performance rather than just chasing the best tracking performance etc. They put a lot more thought into perfecting a thoughtful camera and it shows. It’s not perfect of course, there are compromises and we all wish they chose a different screen cable, but it’s better X-Pro and may even remain the best, depending on what direction any eventual X-Pro4 takes.

I disagree with the X-pro 2 being the most intentional or photographer centric camera in the lineup. The X-pro 3 is the true "photographer" camera. Having used all 3, the X-pro 3 has the absolute best shooting experience and build quality. While the X-pro 1 hands down has the best color reproduction (a one of a kind camera). I don't really get the sudden popularity of the X-pro2. While its a great camera, its definitely the weakest in the lineup. I think its mostly people who want an x-pro 3 without having to deal with the closed back screen.

I bought my X-Pro2 when the X-Pro3 was announced, got one of the last new-in-the-box samples when everyone was gushing over the 3, and never felt that I had a "lesser" camera.

The one important thing for me as an older user when comparing the X-Pro2 and X-Pro1 is that the 2 incorporated a stepless built in dioptor correction, which is a must have for me. It's been decades since I could see through a finder without correction. The X-Pro1 requires external screw in dioptor correction which mean locating them and then hoping your vision does not vary time to time.... no thanks.

I will never sell my X-Pro2.

The X-Pro1 was my first Fuji camera and I really fell in love with it. I had the X-Pro2 for a year, never really felt right for me - although it's better in every way.

I kept my X-Pro1 and will always have it in my collection. I've sold the X-Pro2 though to try out other cameras.

Damn, it sure have been a while!

The X-Pro 2 is one of those cameras that I honestly think will stand the test of time (technically, 7 years and kicking, this is for sure a good start), more so than the X-Pro 3, and for a few reasons.

The first one is obviously the sensor. I have that sensor in my X-T2, and for the last 2 years it's really been delivering some awesome performance. I do video as well, and it's nice video backup camera, the fact that they didn't give the X-Pro 2 all the upgrades they put in the X-T2 via firmware is a real shame (4K recording, F-Log profile etc), cause that sensor + processor combo is really able to put out some work for video.

Second is the build quality. Not kncking the other X-Pro down, but they lack things : The X-Pro 3 will have its ribbon cable for the screen fail at some point, there have been sooo many complaints about it but Fujifilm never bothered to fix the issue. The Rear sub LCD is the first to go generally, and that really sucks. X-Pro 1 isn't sealed. The X-Pro 2, with its fixed (super sharp!) back screen and fully sealed body is by far the most rugged X-Pro camera they've released.

Third is I guess the better feature set and abilities when it comes to controls and ergonomics. Compared to the X-Pro1, it has an additional front dial, ISO sub dial and a joystick (not mentionning everything else that is more customize-able, and much faster thanks to updated specs). The X-Pro3 lacks the magnification window that was in the X-Pro 1 and 2 that allowed for a narrower angle of view in the OVF to use with longer lenses. It also lacks a D-pad which forces you to dig into menus more often (Fuji's replacement for a lack of D-Pad, the touch swipe gestures, are not of any use here since the screen is closed by default).

All of this to say that if there was an X-Pro camera that I'd buy, it would 100% be the X-Pro 2. Only thing keeping me from buying one right now is that I still use my X-T2 often as a B-cam alongside my Nikon Z6 for video, and that besides video the used price is prohibitive : cheapest X-Pro 2 near me right now is 850€, for what is in essence a cosmetic variation of the X-T2 I already own (which I'm fine with, as far as the viewfinder goes).

Great video! I own the x-pro1 and just sold my x-t2. Great camera, but it has less soul. Now I'm looking for a x-pro2. Twice the price of the x-t, but...that seems to be the price for more character. 😉 I love the design since the beginning, the look and feel is so awesome. Yes, you don't see it in the pictures, but taking them comes more from the heart. Photography is a passion for me...not a job! Keep it up, great job! 👍🏻

Sold my Fuji x-pro 2 about a month ago. Great camera but needed something with better autofocus so i replaced it with a used fuji xt3. It’s my second time owning the xt3, so I’m comfortable with it but I do miss the form factor of the xpro 2 though.
