Unlike those who play automatics with a 30-bullet magazine, you're much more limited and vunerable. Mobility and dynamic placement are the key features of this type of weapon.
ОтветитьThere’s a game I play that pulls off a shotgun really well. It falls into a niche of a close range weapon, the few shotguns in the game usually fire at around 200 RPM, and one hits on close range. The game is bases on 2 classes, one offensive, allowing use of weapons such as SMGs, bombs, and shotguns, while the defensive class can use weapons like LMGs, cannons, and snipers. While the defensive class has an advantage at range, shotguns are still semi-viable at medium range. For example, I once 3-shot an enemy at medium range with one of the faster firing shotguns, despite it having a lower calibre than the other ones. The game’s shotguns have good tightness, medium recoil, low fire rate, and lose damage over distance.
Coincidentally, the game has no melee weapons. Hmmm…
(Also there is a vehicle focused third class I will not include.)
Btw, the game is airship assault on on Roblox and is based on the fact that both of the team’s forts are, in fact, moving, destructible airships.
PS: the game somehow manages to be medium paced, despite having near instant times to kill.
Skill issue. Get better battle iq. Learn how to counter it.
ОтветитьAs someone who mostly plays Hero Shooters, especially TF2, I never found the shotgun that annoying. Specifically for TF2, the thing that makes it not that annoying is that the base weapon there is not the Assault Rifle, the base weapon is the shotgun, available for 5/6 of the non support classes, and making the balance of the game based around the shotgun means that range is mostly about how it interacts at close range. This also makes the sniper hated due to being the only long range character in the game (that’s an oversimplification I suck at sniper).

Skill Nazi hate them for one shotting them but outright ignore the fact that it takes skill to hit and kill with every one of each shot and also with such ridiculous wide spread handicap compare to what it actually be in real life. Less brain more muscle, and braindead follow the meta, that's how Skill Nazi think in general. And don't try to reason with them, I tried and I failed every single time.

We, in the states, we only use them in the military as "door breechers" i mean we still use them to clear rooms but heh... its never a war crime the first time right... take Cold War Outbreak.. you could fast walk to lvl 3 world maps with a single shotgun and not even pack a punched. Its such a giddy love fest on multiplayer to hear how toxic people get dying to a shotgun lol

not sure if you looked into the game and it's weapon aswell,
and to add to that: warframe has the duplex trait for weapon (like a shotgun)
if you press the button, it shots the first round, and if you release it, it shots the second one. then reload like normally

Same can be said for range specifications, depends on the type of shotgun, type of muzzle attachment, and type of ammunition
As for games getting it 'wrong', that depends on that game, and if people can handle a 'real' shotgun mechanic in a game to begin with.
Regardless, shotgun will always be a favorite. Especially if you ever managed to handle one in a specific survival situation in IRL

ОтветитьI feel like a lot of the corrections just move the goalpost to a slightly different position that doesn't actually change the result. A double barrel that you have to click two buttons instead of one to one shot still one shots. The automatic shotgun just got relegated to the same position it always does of being a somehow underpowered close range tickler that turns into a stiff breeze past 10ft, the pump action always went for center mass, making them aim up half a centimeter doesn't change much and the patterned shotgun was attempted in apex legends, it makes it more reliable but it needed nerfing all the same. The only notable difference was making them longer range which would make sense but just extend the problem child's reach. Snipers and shotguns are hard to balance because they were designed expressly to upset real life combat balance, so there's no good way to make them equally competitive and at a certain point that's just a thing to be accepted, not balanced. A call of duty environment doesn't call for that wide an arsenal of weaponry, battlefield is better since generally your response to meeting a sniper or shotgun in their element is to simply not engage, or engage atypically (from behind a friendly tank, with a mine, outmanuever/outposition). So if you want them to be balanced you need to fit the play field to their intended operation scope, rather than fit them to the play field. At least if you want to maintain the authenticity in the design. That said, I prefer the arena shooter approach (boomshoot), if it's gonna be fantasy make it a power fantasy, make the shotgun obliterate people, triple gatling guns, punching shells as they come out to make them go faster, blatantly stupid purely in pursuit of cool factor.
ОтветитьI'd like to see a buckshot/birdshot shotgun getting affected significantly by an ARMOR stat. Keep the short range instant kill, but only if you are using bird shot on an almost unarmored target because at that range you are just hamburger.

ОтветитьYou almost perfectly describe the model 1887 from The Finals here. It cannot one shot, no headshot bonus, has tight spread and is good up to mid range, spread pattern is always exact (no randomeness) as well as a very long reload time. It also has a super satisfying POP 👍
ОтветитьIndeed the SPAS-12 can be pumped (or better: Needs to be pumped in certain situations) when you run loads that will not cycle the action, such as less than lethal rubber-bullets (they don't generate the pressure needed to cycle the action!)! This makes the SPAS-12 my favourite shotgun :)
Ответитьthe halo shotgun made sense, it was an instant kill, but only at close range. the shit that i hate more then anything are shotguns in apex, where they have sniper range, and all these damn kids just bounce on their heads flopping like fish with perfect two shot accuracy... then you have the flat cheaters that do the door peak cheat where they door opens and closes instantly and they can just shoot close, shoot close, shoot close, you cant hit them, but they can end you, because, you know, doors dont have weight, or need hands to open and close...
