Grateful for having learned a lot about gateshead which has britain´s ugliest, most depressing town centre whilst Newcastle is one of Europe´s most graceful, beautiful cities. It is a great place for a massive urban regeneration though although that new shopping centre, mainly these flats, is beyond ugly, carter´s car park was iconic and a 60´s masterpiece. thank you very much

Great videos! Before going to newbiggin by the sea, I watched your tour and enjoyed it so much, I recreated it once I arrived! Sadly, the wind levels were too dangerous and had to return home halfway through the walk. Thank you for making these videos! :D

I'd like to point out that the "Angel" was never meant to be an angel, it was meant to represent the heavy industrial history of the north east of England. but it has subsequently been tagged with the name of Angel of the north.

Another lovely walk - many thanks for posting these. I'm currently reading a set of books set around this area, and it really helps to have a visual representation to match up against what I imagine the areas to look like!

Everything gateshead has newcastle claims as theirs.
Town centre of gateshead is too close to newcastle and everyone from gateshead goes to newcastle, same with the football.
Majority of newcastle fans are from gateshead and abandoned their own town team to support another citys team.
Gateshead is a big place, without it newcastle would be nothing.
People moan about newcastle sucking all the juice out of gateshead, when the same people go to newcastle to eat, drink, work, football

You're a bit sparse on the history front, obviously not local but paid to read a card. Come to Gateshead get a bus lane fine and see the deserted high street you can't miss it it's about 50 years behind you.

I was born in Gateshead....it was always described as a dirty back lane, leading to Newcastle.....I visited again a couple of years ago...and to my horror..it's much worse than it was in the sixties..The council have made a dump..an even bigger dump!

Mind the place has changed, I lived in Gateshead - Devonshire Street 67 - until 1956 (when I was 8 years old) Moved to Denmark, my father being Danish, my mother English. It was lovely to see Sct. Josephs Church, I went to All Saints School, my teacher Miss Conway, the best teacher ever. Now 76 and still a Geordie at heart, thank you for the tour which also brought me down memory lane.
