So Tech Lead what do you suggest? Abandon the IT field all together? Or just coding?

I think Traditional Tech is plateauing. Alternative Tech is growing. I think all these layoffs will spur Tech in a new direction that isn't controlled by the Big Tech companies. More smaller companies will start and won't want anything to do with Traditional Tech companies.

So much for "learn to code"... lol. I was #1 in my freshman class of high school with a 4.0. I now work in the trades doing electrical with the union. In a few years I'll be making well into six figures in my twenties with full benefits & top of the line insurance and benefits and my trade schooling paid for by my employer & union. You don't have to follow the sheep. It's been clear to me for a long time that the exponential growth of tech will have to slow down. It's natural. Mostly all of the marketable innovations will have been discovered and created and the industry will standardize. Corporate conglomerates will control the biggest coding teams and buy up any new ideas that sprout up before they can independently grow to full-scale. The sad part is that unlike my job, there will be less jobs than qualified applicants. My job and union is desperate for people and offering damn near unlimited overtime. It's common for companies to pay $15-20+ per hour extra incentive on TOP of our base pay to try and attract more employees.

I'm an old-fart coder that had thrown in the towel after going 0-14 on job interviews in the Great Recession, deciding instead to just file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and living off my 401K/IRAs. I have a friend in the business that I talked to a year ago, and he was telling me how Chat programs were basically doing the main bulk of his coding (he's an Oracle DB coder, and would do a quick run-through before compiling), and we both wondered how long he would remain employable.

I'd just read that the Sugarman had one of the biggest gains in wealth ever recorded in 1 day. I think it's time we start hitting these obscenely wealthy folks with confiscatory taxes.

If you think owning a lamborghini and pool would let you "live it up", you are confused. Influencers are actors. Their job is pretending to be happy.

Tech workers made entirely too much money, it was simply not sustainable. Furthermore all the insane benefits like meditation rooms, snack bars and the like were...and lets be frank here...undeserved.

Its about time this happened and everyone will be better off for it.

This was hilarious to watch. You touched on a lot of interesting stuff. But to summarize, influencers work hard (it might not seem like it, but the success you see is only 1 %). But the difference is they work hard on LEVERAGE. They can serve 10, 100, 1k, 10k, 100k, 1m. It doesn't matter. They can keep growing. But at a job you can only serve 1 person. Your employer.

This guy consistently has the worst takes but I can’t tell when it’s satire and when it’s not. Tech influencers are not a comparable class against tech workers. It’s such and infinitesimally small population. It’s 100% not affecting employment in big tech or elsewhere. Moreover, while tech hiring is declining ( specifically at product based companies ) 99% of developers work in tech but in different domains like education, finance, etc. While these jobs are not golden geese they’re still very viable options. 99% of software roles have already turned into slightly better paid plumbers
