Dear Woody, how great that you make it so clear and succinct for “some” of us dummies.
Great work and bless you!
Great video! let me just add that 90% of these features, sounds, styles, etc, can be found in way cheaper instruments. and my favorite is DGX-670. no need to spend $5000 on the flagship. one grand will take you there safely.
ОтветитьHow do you save your selections so you don't have to set everything up each time you play a certain song?
ОтветитьThanks for the great video Woody and looking forward to many more! Your enthusiasm is contagious!!! A Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
ОтветитьQuality content for Genos i love it! ❤
ОтветитьRubbish, boring video
Ответитьexcellent! very clear. I have just subscribed. I have te GENOS 1.
ОтветитьVery good video woody, just what I was looking for. Seems quite intuitive from watching you, which is great. Like your enthusiasm and excitement.. thanks
ОтветитьI use to enjoy your videos but how did you get so annoying with your irritating screeching voice 😖 and stupid unfunny jokes. Just get on with it !!.
Ответить@WoodyPianoShack PSR-SX900/700/600 all have dedicated keys for style/voices categories. The internal speakers are great to save space. And I doesn't use aftertouch. So I would prefer ro see the updated SX900 - SX950 or something similar. I mailght be wrong though
ОтветитьUse a pair decent studio monitors , the Genos get alive ! ( standard is very average quality)
ОтветитьThank you very much for your efforts in this video..
ОтветитьTake a look at the age of the average Yamaha arranger launch audience. That's why the arranger is dying.
Ответитьstacks of info there!! last arranger i played was technics kn1000 and 6000, Casio mz2000, also i did have a look at the roland VA7 years ago. Shows you how long ago its been since i have played around with keyboards in a shop, but then again the company who had the shops went under sadly, some time ago, and there are no keyboard dealers about now in my town sadly.
ОтветитьModule/desktop version would consider, maybe
ОтветитьHi Woody thank you for doing this tutorial you explained everything very well. I know this may be a stupid question but if the genos has no internal speakers does this mean that no sound will come out of it unless you buy separate speakers of some sort. Will look forward to you demonstrating chord looper and vocal harmoniser as I cant find any videos of these.
ОтветитьWeighted keys ????
Should be for that rippoff price
Awesome review Woody I tried the Genos 2 at the store but sincerly i cannot do this upgrade cause its so similiar to the Genos 1 that spending 5500 euro on it its like Im throwing them away ,Even the wave data is exactly 3gb the same, I can understand there new better voices and more styles and ambient drums its just not enough in my opinion.
From Genos 1 to Genos 2 im not seeing its worth the upgrade
Great job but how about wooly bully watch it now 😮
ОтветитьHi Woody.
New here but found yr approach appealing to me.
(A bit backround and objectives if y hava time to read. Im intermediate-, i 74y, olg. Have my favorite old grand piano and T5. Target is to learn best practices for T5 before updating to G2)
Goor way might be being able to make as close original as possible good popular covers. Watched some of your videos. Perhaps its not possible for you to show because of copy wrights? But use some good copy free full band peases.
Few Q.s? '
Y use chord sheets on screen. Clever, how to do them? Possible at T5?
Y use registration for the. song . Still difficult for me to use fluently. Y control with pedal? Wonder if it could be possible to have then scrolling even added with lyrics? (helps to memorise the song)
And one more Q as hint for yr tutorials. How to use the voice and Eq settings to make voices as good and close to above covers..
So pleased having found yr site.
Cheers WillianFinland
HI Woody im saving up for the Yamaha Genos 2 should i get one? since i all ready got the Genos 1? i heard alot of features been added ima keep my Genos 1 when i get the Genos 2
ОтветитьI was lucky, never has to play arranger for dummies.
Okay, one time it was pretty close
Tylko się nie zesraj z zachwytu!!
ОтветитьA lot of work for nothing ! A lot of money for very little ! The price does not justify the difference between the Genos 1 or the competition, which at a much lower price offers you much more ! Korg Pa5x is much superior to Genos 2 !
ОтветитьTo be honest there's nothing new in this super expensive keyboard. All the features as explained here were already available in my Technic keyboard 20 years ago. Except for the styles and sounds quality, i am yet to know any other advance features in the Genos. After 20 over years seems like nothing big different could be spotted immediately. 😮
ОтветитьYou are the best Woody! Super funny with lots of fun whilst learning from you ...
ОтветитьThe relative simplicity of the banjo in the background, an interesting juxtaposition :)
ОтветитьI own a number of sequencer keyboards and groove boxes. which allow you to customise your backing but recently bought a vintage 1998 Yamaha DJX which is an arranger keyboard but so much fun as you can make the patterns your own with the cutoff, filter and DSP. And add your own samples to the cool arpeggiator. The Genus is an updated version of the DJX.
ОтветитьHow can you record?
ОтветитьI so wish a lot of the negative commenters who haven’t got anything better to say would just crawl back in the pond !
ОтветитьThanks for the video, Woody. I appreciate the positive attitude that you bring to your videos. 🙂👍
ОтветитьIt’s relatively easy to escape the cheese. Thin down the styles, change the instruments in the parts a little and above all switch to ‘figured on bass’ fingering. That way, you get to choose both the chord and the bass note of each. Don’t forget, you can play individual notes (up to two) in the left hand to add your own lines down below the split without changing the harmony. I generally own use intro 1 or make up my own. Style creation itself isn’t that hard for anyone experienced in using a DAW. Just remember to record everything in C!
ОтветитьHow do you avoid songs using the same style sound totally the same (differ cords, yes. But still pretty much identical)? Or do you simply use one style for one song only. The Pet Shop Boys style sounded like a one trick pony. But other styles may be more generic?
ОтветитьCan you make your own styles? . My xs90s has some of the accompaniment features as this keyboard, but they are called arpeggios. Certain sounds are programmed with the appropriate arpeggio, and you can mix and match arpeggios, but there are no global pre-packaged registrations as on the Genos 2. You can have up to four running at the same time. It also is able to read rootless voicings, so it will trigger the correct notes. However, not all of the arpeggios operate with this feature, only certain ones like the walking jazz bass. Seems like Yamaha has had there act together in this regard for a while. The auto accompaniment is not nearly as extensive as this keyboard. Thanks for the demo, and I do like your shirt!
ОтветитьThanks
ОтветитьTHANK YOU ! DID YAMAHA PROGRAM ENOUGH VOICES WITH AFTERTOUCH CONTROL? DID YOU FIND IT USEFUL?
ОтветитьI wonder how many measures the automatic looper will do , ? a arranger is the best for a creative artist to make masic on ,,by my findings over the years I have been in bands , church choir director trios , played piano , and I dont really care for DJ , I like to use a arranger as my base board , and add synths , guitars , and by doing so It allows me to really create my own Original music like when you mix paint colors ,,and get all different colors ,,I like to do things unorthodoxy as far as art and music ,, Woody could you play us one on that banjo ,, and the shirt is groovy ,,,I see your letting your hair grow out like a Hippie guy on the beach ,,you need a surf board ,,,I Love Yamaha I want a new Genos 2 ,, I have a Yamaha PSRsx900 and I Love Love it ,,and a Yamaha Tyros 3 and I Love it ,,and a Korg Pa5x and I Love it ,,I have many synths and arrangers I play them for forty years ,,since I was five years old ,, I had and still have a brown Magnus 25 key Organ I played when I was little boy I am 62 now ,,:) I Love my Yamaha arrangers and synths and my Magnus ,, the music is not in any interments its inside us
ОтветитьWoody, you have so much stamina, I can feel your enthusiasm. Beautiful machine for movie sound scoring. Enjoyed the video and looking forward to others.
ОтветитьAnother brilliant tutorial, Woody. I'm not so surprised by the
chord detection. Yamaha have been doing this since the 1980s Electones and
mathematically it seems quite straightforward. I should check how my EL-90
(c 1990) does, but I'm not in the same location as it right now. Thanks for
showing us the buttons and their purposes, which I've not seen on other
videos.
It doesn`t matter how expensive these keyboards get, in most cases they sound cheasy despite their truely great sounding singular instrument-patches. The sax-sounds on the Yamahas ar fantastic. The big problem are always the cluttered and "almost like the original song" sounding styles .
ОтветитьI'm definitely not the target audience for this product, but love your videos, and a lot of thought went into the features in these arranger keyboards 👌
ОтветитьGreat video! I noticed that you were holding down the stop button and pressing individual multipads to stop them. For anyone who doesn't know, you can just press the stop button to stop all of the pad sounds at once. I really enjoyed your Genos2 video where you played the Raiders of the Lost Ark theme! That was epic!
ОтветитьMan if you slicked your hair back... what a beast. Did you try it? :D
ОтветитьI like your shirt, Woody. I subscribed! 😂
ОтветитьWow $5699! That's rough.
ОтветитьThanks for another great video.
ОтветитьArranger keyboard are a tool for composers and arrangers and for live musician (if they put in time to set it up for their gig). If you compose daily, you know exactly what to do when fiddling about on an arranger, because it just help you flesh out the stuff that you do daily anyway.
I don't think you compose music on daily basis?
Woody, Genos 2 is an excellent instrument and quite expensive. It's not for everyone. I'm not an instrumentalist and so I just stick with Ableton Live and my favorite plugins. An instrument as expensive and with as much technology as the Genos 2 would require Piano Roll and Arrangement view. My 90s Korg Triton has Arrangement view and Piano Roll.
