I can't agree . In my opinion they should build a fully functional ship to commemorate the three original Olympic Class liners .

This should not be a rebuild of any of the three of them , but in fact the third ship , as it was intended to be built , but which was replaced by Britannic .

Originally , the three sisters were meant to be Olympic , Titanic and Gigantic . Due to various factors ( the sinking of Titanic , and the onset of WW1 ) Gigantic was never built as intended , and instead the much modified Britannic was created .

They should commemorate the three sister ships by now building the one that never was : RMS Gigantic ; pretty much the same as Titanic , which differed slightly from Olympic . The main change , later applied to Olympic was that her boilers were converted to oil firing , instead of coal ; Gigantic ought to retain just one set of coal fired boilers , just to show what they looked like , and all her other boilers , the ones that would actually be used , should be oil fired , as retrofitted in Olympic .

The other design question would be raising the height of the waterproof bulkheads , since this would be an invisible modification , which was also applied to Britannic and , I believe , retrofitted to Olympic , this should be done .

In all other respects , the ship should be a replica , built to original plans and with replicas of the original engines , with as many details as possible being faithful to the original ships .

Rather than spoil the new ship with the ungainly lifeboat davits fitted to Britannic , having a sufficient number of inflatable life rafts concealed within the replica lifeboats , which themselves would still be functional , would probably suffice , along with a reduction in passengers to fit with the availability .

If the new ship were ever to go on tour , she could be accompanied by the tender ship Nomadic , which is preserved in Belfast , thus always having a rescue ship in close proximity if ever needed ; that comes to the point of where this new ship should be constructed , and there is only one place : at harland and Wolff in Belfast , with the new ship kept in the Titanic Quarter , except when periodically going on tour . Tours might initially be just down to Southampton or other 'local' destinations , such as Liverpool , Titanic's city of registration , with longer journeys only being made after some suitable short trips .

Gigantic should spend most of her time in the Titanic dry dock , next to the Titanic Belfast visitor centre - there is no other place for her , other than occasionally at sea and perhaps , with utmost care , visiting New York , her intended destination .

This should be financed by UK government as a job and skill creation enterprise , and with permanent jobs coming out of the back end .

Technology never allowed us to get to the ship at all until 1985. Maybe by 2085 humans will have the ability to bring those windows out and up without breaking them. I can’t even imagine how that might be possible in all that rubble at the bottom of the ocean. It’s not like you can just get a saw and cut through an iron ship. With any luck maybe one will fall gently to the ocean floor in one piece.

So do you think that deep inside the undamaged part of the boat, there will be pristine condition parts?

Elon Musk needs to rebuild this using the original blueprints but he needs to bring those bulkheads up a bit…, we don’t need history repeating itself…🚢🤵🏻‍♂️

Great idea! That would do well I would imagine as the titanic has always been and still is such a curiosity for people as it holds such mystery to it

There should be a vr simulation game that lets you go all the way down to the ship wreck of the titanic as it was when they discovered it and as it is now so that you can see everything in its spooky glory and have prompts that you click on that tell you about it like clothes, dolls, parts and pieces, etc. It could also serve as a way for future generations to view the wreck of the titanic even after its gone ie more of it is.

I get where the preservationists are coming from, and that it's a grave site....but to honor those poor souls more I believe we should try and recover as much as we can before it's all gone at sea forever. My heart goes out to all the lives lost that fateful night.❤❤

It’s amazing how the bow section was sinking like 30 -40 mph when it hit the sea floor, slamming with such force that the hydraulic pressure busted the bolts of a hatch and the hull was warped and yet there are these beautiful windows still intact.
