Look into Eastern Orthodox Christianity my friend ☦☦☦.
ОтветитьThere's an old English phrase 'Quick to worry, slow to action' - Why not find out about this stuff rather than sh*t posting about it?
The guy behind it is really passionate about this software and its the same thing thats happened to Blender animation software which now has millions piled into it's development by Rockstar Games, Intel, AMD, Apple, MicroSoft to name but a few and now outclasses everything out there and is even seriously treadin on the toes of Maya and Houdini!
I hate to use the phrase 'STFU' but really, you'd help everyone by taking this video down.
Thank you so much for making us aware we really appreciate it.
ОтветитьI was using an older version until they changed their legal text.
Now I wish they'd fix the bugs;
1. No scroll bar until you resize the window.
2. Most playback begins with a pop.
Still using Audacity.
Ответитьthis guy is the epitome of the average linux user lmfao
he even looks the part
have fun worrying about shit that nobody cares about. we're all gonna die anyway :)
It’s not “unfortunate” that one has to download the real-time plugins. It’s a cool thing that they’re available to download for free.
Ответитьnow that is a good summary, thank you!
ОтветитьI never even really realized but i still use Audacity 2.4.2 to this very day.
Ответитьthey lived to their name Audacity !
Ответитьyea .. maybe they do it just to make us return to use it. But I'm not going back.
ОтветитьNB: for recent Audacity in Windows 10 you must uninstall Microsoft Sound Recorder, as it clashes with Audacity and stops Audacity recording - "Device not found", etc. Other sound recorders may also cause this problem.
ОтветитьThank you young man. This old guitar hack used it alot. So informative!
Ответитьi still use an old version of audacity
ОтветитьI've honestly just been using the DarkAudacity fork for years now myaelf
ОтветитьTelemetry is a common thing now.. and its optional....most if not all tech companies will have to comply with law enforcement should it be needed..... those under the age of 13 don't need to edit audio in this manner
Ответитьthe absolute *audacity* of some people !!
ОтветитьI used audacity a few months ago to edit shitty TF2 hitsounds. Good times.
ОтветитьCould you imagine all the (essentially) swatting that would happen with people editing movie clips?! That was a very stupid idea.
ОтветитьAudacity is everywhere now.
ОтветитьIn the last ten years the internet on the whole has turned to poop compared to what it was.
ОтветитьThe Muse company has done the same to Musescore, which it now owns. If you assume they've changed their tune, you might want to check where the Muse company is housed. The latest version of Musescore (4.*) has excluded a lot of features formerly used and essential in Linux. It looks like they're going to drop linux support, and the same change of license is likely just around the corner, where the Musescore code ceases to be opensource and becomes proprietary (sans Linux). Note of warning to linux users who might want to try Muse's proprietary sounds, called Muse Sounds.
The install requires root access of your system, and as such, can be a potential route into all your juicy data. Telemetry for sale, anyone?
The audacity of such decisions!
ОтветитьMy experience with newer versions of audacity is that it crashes when trying to save audio files of over 1 hour. This has happened on multiple PCs, and it makes these new versions (3.1.2 and up) unusable for me.
ОтветитьThis was immensely helpful. Thanks, Eric! 🙂 You also gave enough information so that users with a different usage profile can reach their own conclusion which may differ, in their case.
ОтветитьI am on Linux. Ditched Windows 18 months ago after decades of using MS. Not going back ever.
So looks like I am OK.
chances are you are using some closed software that sends telemetry. Router, TV and all the smart iot rubbish. even if you eliminate every source someome will bring one to you in your life. there is no escape
ОтветитьSo far, I don't have problems with Audacity when it comes to telemetry. I think that I can set it to not send them data
ОтветитьWhy are you scared of your data sent to law enforcements? Are you a child molester?
ОтветитьIt went the same way as unity is going
ОтветитьAs far as that privacy policy goes, that felt like a cookie cutter copy and paste job as I have definitely seen this wording in other places. They still should have checked and thrown out things that clearly didn't apply or made any sense at all. I can't say for sure, but it could have been just laziness rather than malice, or at least one would hope.
ОтветитьI was a big fan of Goldwave back-in-the-day. Now I just use the audio editing from VSDC Video Editor.
ОтветитьI still use it. 🤷♂️
Ответить* Why FOSS software would ever need this "update checking"? This is not their job! I want to use whatever version I set up. I use that for a reason, which is not your business. And that's really a job for the package manager, to check for updates and so on!
* Telemetry. Well, when it is consentual, I don't see anything wrong with this. Just set up default to "no" for people to not enable it occasionally. By default there is no consent, be it performance analysis, error/debug info or something else!
* CLA is the way for them to circumvent the spirit of FOSS. By ever adding this they already expressed their possible intent of doing so, and there'll be no way to legally stop them. So, people, don't contribute if you don't want they being paid for your hard work and you can't have a penny or any other return! The GPL was invented exactly to fobird such an usage. Here we see a spoiled, poisoned pill. This is the worst thing they did ever.
I use OceanAudio, thanks to VWestlife.
ОтветитьNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ответитьi have not updated my audacity for almost a year.
ОтветитьBtw, do you use Arch?
ОтветитьThe Audacity of this guy I still use it a lot.
ОтветитьI missed this entirely, I've been using the software pretty much for all audio things since 2022.
ОтветитьThe audacity.
ОтветитьCan they call the fork "Old Ass City"?
ОтветитьI got my computer (a Mac) in late 2021, installed a then-popular Audacity fork called Tenacity, and promptly forgot about it. A while later, I needed to use it to edit an M4A file, the program prompted me to download FFmpeg. I resent having to do this to access a core feature, but I'd done it before, so I followed the download link in the app. But I could only find the download links for Windows. I trawled through many webpages, byzantine documentation, and even tried downloading the Audacity version of FFmpeg in the vague hope it might be compatible.
This eventually led to me asking for support in Tenacity's official IRC channel, only to be told that the app I was using (Tenacity for Mac) does not exist.
Needless to say, I switched back to Audacity.
Old version download
Ответитьdark audacity?
Ответитьwhat I hate the most is that if I press stop the cursor does not stay where it was, it jumps back to the beginning
ОтветитьI’ve been using audacity since 2018 with 2.2.2, I don’t plan on never stopping using it
ОтветитьThe good thing about such software is that it's perfectly fine to just not update to a newer version and use the old one. I still use 2.1.2 that supports a wider array of encoders.
Ответитьmusegroup is like the opensource musical/audio community cancer
ОтветитьMy issue with Audacity is the program freezes up randomly, especially when I'm exporting or trying to use a function that requires keyboard interface. I'm over it. After a decade of satisfied usage, I'm looking elsewhere. Yes, I have uninstalled and installed many tines. Oddly, I used my father's PC (also Windows) and the program worked like a charm???
