Lighting an Aladdin Lamp

Simple, short and sweet!!!

@southernrain1000, that's right, it's always good to keep the font over half full. This lamp had been burning all morning and was about ready for a refill :) When burning off the coating, Tony does step back until the mantle has completely burned off so while not mentioned in the steps of lighting it is a precaution normally taken.

@southernrain1000, the Aladdin lamp oil is a clear fuel.

You did not address leaving such a lamp unattended. Although, Aladdin Lamp Corp. produced a very good product and have changed over the years, this is something that you can't leave unattended. If so, the lamp run away from you and may very badly soot. If that happens, unburned carbon will trail out of the chimney, will leave deposits on the chimney and mantle which can shorten the life of the mantle, can and does smoke up the room to the extreme that the ceiling will be blackened.

@LehmansHardware While I"m not disputing that the fuel provided by the Aladdin Lamp Corp. isn't superior, I am disputing the cost as being more than what one could occasionally run a lamp. I will mention K1 kerosine and not even mention other fuels that should not be run as someone might half read the message and see the word of some other fuel and then try it. Aladdin lamp fuel or K1 Kerosine are the only types of fuel these lamps are designed for. Using such, they are fairly safe.

@LehmansHardware Although I wouldn't recommend burning an Aladdin lamp with that little of fuel. I will tell you what will happen if you do. The wick will burn and eventually the lamp will go out. It will not catch fire or be a fire hazard. That was an old tale that's been around before I was long born. it looks like the Lemans has a good selection of stock.

I wouldn't recommend allowing the bowl or fount to get that low. It will shorten the life of the wick. Also, some mantles are slightly radioactive. I would advise not breathing in the smoke. I think that it's good that this store still stocks and devotes the floor and shelf space to these items as well as the gas refrigerators which a small niche market.

@k3rnelpanic, the life of an Aladdin mantle is around 3 months but they are very fragile so it is a good idea to always have extras on hand.

Wow. That delicate topper that incandesces is really cool! Is it some form of catalytic converter? Or what?

@garden40846, Aladdin recommends using only kerosene or Aladdin lamp oil in their lamps.
