Burnout still holds number one spot for me since beam doesn’t have realistic visual damage. The cars looks like there made out of plastic and are missing debris and tearing damage

Beamng with iracing driving physics and forza or assetto corsa graphics would be the perfect simulator if ever happen

I just want to add that Colin McRae Rally 3 (released in 2002) had probably the best damage system at the time: you could detach EVERY parts from doors to the exhaust. You could also snap the antennas by rolling over the car on the roof. For me it was unbelievable and they also made a tech demo about it.

I bought BeamNG recently just for the car crashing fun. I am not a racing game enthusiast at all. I am a bit disappointed that environment destruction is pretty much absent in this game. Yes it is fun to crash my own car, but why can't I crash anything else from the environment? Why don't my car have a real trail in the sand or snow? A bit disappointing, but I also didn't spend a fortune on it, so it's fine I guess.

I think the first grid game should be in 4 or 3. Had near burnout level car deformation on real licensed cars. And some arcadic mechanical damages can be done too. And you can also get your car out of the race with a high speed crash.

Nascar 2003 (the last one made by Papyrus before EA killed it) was quite amazing with mecanical damages.
It had gearbox damages, you could blown the engine with high rev or overheating, dirt on the windshield with tires smoke and oil leaks, tire heat and damage simulation also it had randomly generated engine and gearbox faillures.
