Sony RX0 II Unboxing and Initial Impressions!

Hi. does it have the touch screen to change focus?

WHY won’t it continually autofocus?!?! Why do you DO this to us, Sony?!

I don't understand why people compare this to an a6400 or RX100 without putting a waterproof housing on the bigger cameras and seeing how massive they are (and expensive). The whole point of it to me is to take it into GoPro situations but take SLR quality photos and good 4k video. If I wasn't worried about water, why wouldn't I just buy an A6000 and a second hand beautiful Zeiss lens?

Also, continuous focus is a nightmare in the water, and so are touch screens. I absolutely love no touchscreen on this having tried to change settings on a wet GoPro.

thanks for the review, really tempted, the size and underwater capacity really appeal, not sure though, with my need for constant shutter while filming makes exposure with that fixed lens underwater for filming tricky.....anyone have any experience yet?

Sony lover here. 1" sensor and flip screen, great! The rest at $700?!?... meh. Sony blew it (again) on this one. It's a damn fixed aperture video camera so how are you supposed to control that shutter speed? ND's that don't exist yet? And, as I understand it, I.S. has to be done out of the camera? There is so much lacking. Just going to wait for either DJI or GoPro to finally get the compact 1" Sony sensor into their camera lineups.

The image looked good and audio as well. Doesn’t it have both far and near infinite focus aka two settings for outside of the single serve.

wrist strap is a must. over rails and such are not the best places for a none strapped camera.

Every camera is good for someone and something. Some are just not that good for online content creation. Additionally, I would actually use the camera wrist strap including since it doesn't advertise what camera I am holding. Also, this new camera footage is in 24fps, isn't it? LOL. Looks so much more natural!

Can't you just use warp stabilizer in post?

I have to use wrist strap, because dog. It helps to use bouth hands.

No continue autofocus? That's bad! Not sure if the next gopro will do a flip screen but if it does its because of Sony.

Great review! I was briefly considering using this for my vlog, but the less-than-ideal auto-focus scared me away. Went with the A6400 instead!

Take it out on a walkabout held at arm's length. Is the lens wide enough? Can you still see enough of the tiny screen to be useful? How's it with no stabilization? Does it crop for the digital stabilization? How's it react to drastic changes in outdoor lighting? When will it be $300 cheaper? :-)

No, we never use the camera strap, though most often we end up with something on a small tripod instead. Could this sensor be the forerunner to an updated FDR X3000 (still our favorite)?
