Lighting Noisy Hunter Herald Slimline 5

Our first Hunter Herald Slimline 5 was replaced for being excessively noisy - the replacement is taking after its predecessor and unless kept at a constant temperature (i.e no fire or fully stoked) it sounds like hail on a tin roof...

This is it being lit from cold with just newspaper and some untreated kindling (damper open, all vents open and grate closed).
