My issue with this splitter is where the 2 prongs at the back sit in the spacer. There is 1-2mm of movement so I can't seem to set the depth and get a consistent split. It either goes deeper with the movement or takes the whole end of the strap off. So frustrating. I will be returning this again.

I just bought this at Tandy yesterday! I've always struggled with the hand held ones and it was always a trick to get a decent looking and accurate. This is the way to go! I

It took so much force to split a 4” strip that the skiver ripped out of the table and smashed me in the leg without actually cutting the leather. Returning this.

How wide of a piece of leather can this cut? Would it cut a 4” wide strip?Looking to thin out leather for my wallets.

I’ve had one these splitters for 12 years. I purchased it for my travel tools to go to craft shows. I purchased this for it’s small size. I actually liked it better than my $400 Osbourne splitter. It’s the only splitter I currently own. I love it.

I sharpen my blade with a diamond compound. I make knives and make my own sheaths. I found I like doing leather work more than making knives! I never would have bought mine because the $300 price was not justified for the amount of leather work I do, but I make belts too and this went on sale on Black Friday in Nov 2017 for $100 and I bought it. Mine came sharp and ready to go, after a month I sharpened the edge to a 10,000 grit finish using diamond compound on very thin leather glued to a piece of steel. It is even more awesome now and I attached a small handle onto the small thumb roller tool and skiving a tapered belt end is much easier. I'm sorry for the ones who don't know how to sharpen the cutter, but it's fairly easy for me.

Is there a replacement blade? You can't tell me I paid $200 for this item and can't replace the blade now that's it's dull.

It looks like you're skivving a thicker grade leather (shoe or belt thickness). We use upholstery grade leather which is much softer... do you think it would still perform as well?

A Scharf-Fix 2000 is only $386.50 and this Tandy Craftool machine is $299.99. The price difference is small ($86.51). Also the scharf machine is specifically for paring/skiving leather and it's small, so you don't need a lot of space.

Hey there, yep I am aware those exist but the price difference between this and those type of machines is what's keeping me back. It'd be really nice if there was something cheap available for those of us who don't have the space or volume to necessitate a bigger/better machine.

Now this is a cool tool. However, is there any way to do just one edge on a big piece of leather? I make shoes and have to skive the edges of the leather sometimes, but a skiving machine is big money..!
