My animation teacher worked on a couple episodes of Paradise PD, and I think what you had to say was right on the money. It’s one of the few projects she worked on before becoming a teacher and photographer full time, and whenever she shows us a clip that she animated from the show to demonstrate what we’re learning in class that day, I can tell she’s always embarrassed that she worked on this show at all. None of us judge her, of course, because it was her chance to break into the industry and she was only doing what she was told, plus she wasn’t the one who wrote those crude jokes. Still, it has to be discouraging to finally get into the industry after four years of college only to end up working on a Family Guy ripoff that you know will be poorly received and mocked for its art style.

I’m convinced these shows are actually made for children but are marketed as for adults because they’re rated R and have to be

None of the fucking shows are even the same... It's more like they had three premises that all got chose, at different points. No difference to fuzzy door selling family guy, American dad, and the Cleveland show.. each one can go over the exact same issues, but the fact is, each family is built up of different people with a different style. Family Guy relies on cut aways, while American dad doesn't even barley use a cut away, while Cleveland show is it own take as well.. they aren't the same. It's basically like a sim, you see how the same thing would effect 3 different types of the same family. Different outcomes and different stories. Not the same.

I'm convinced the only reason adult animation aims to be so raunchy, animated and crude is in defiance to the mentality that animation is exclusively for children, so they do everything the OPPOSITE of what is expected from children's animation just to go "Look at what we can do NOW!"

The clip of the show used here that has the kid asking "Is this more like Futurama or Rick and Morty?" is a red flag, because it's literally reminding me that I could be watching those shows instead, or South Park, or Bob's Burgers, or even any of Seth McFarlane's shows for that matter.

brickleberry is overhated tbh, its in that genre of 'adult' themed programming that's really made for the 10-20 age range(because kids LOVE edge, makes them feel more mature and if you remember being a kid we all used to brag if we were older lol) but its unique tbh, it doesn't feel like a straight rip off of anything.

netflix really brings out the worst and best of animation. on one hand you have incredible shows such as bojack horseman and inside job. but then you also have this and big mouth

Western animation is literally either haha it's for kids and only kids or it's just trying to be as edgy, cringey and offensive as possible. I hate it. Adult animation doesn't have just be overly violent and sexual.
