Wheels and Rovers - Getting Started in Space Engineers #4 (Survival Tutorial Series)

Wouldn't a wheel vehicle theoretically be a good idea for transporting materials? For example, you have a mining outpost for that ice lake you found last video, and transporting the ice from that mining outpost would be inefficient with the shuttle, no? Since it can carry only so much before not being able to lift itself. Wouldn't something like a truck be able to carry much more than a ship due to needing less power to move forward?

So... I'm building a mobile base... using the big blocks... with big ass wheels.

How do you make the ship drop off its inventory automatically? When I land the Miner on the Carrier, it doesn't seem to drop its inventory automatically.

I just got SE on Playstation and these tutorials are a life saver thank you so much. The controls are different and whenever I set the parking brake my miner falls off. The only parking setting in wheels is allow parking break not set it.

Can’t you just add a few terminals to the ship and add wheels?

i like the rover idea i think using a rover for travel is better than the ship

Great Tutorials! As someone who is completely new to this game and on PS5 I'm building everything you make pretty much block for block to learn the mechanics. For the life of me though my mining ship will not properly lock to the rover! I tried turning the up thrusters off which kind of works but eventually the mining ship just kind of falls off. HELP! @Splitsie

Ive learned so much already in 4 episodes but the one thing i learned in other SE tutorials is utilizing pistons on vehicles so you can jack it up and make modifications or repairs in the field alot easier especially for noobs like me who end up destroying alot as im figuring out how everything works lol

Hey I know you probably won't answer but I thought to give it a shot:

I built your carrier design 1 to 1 but Materials won't go from the connecters on the carrier to the storage

I checked the connection (can grab anything from anywhere on the carrier) and if they are turned on, energy, everything is working

I've read that the connecter is only distributing stuff to areas that need it like stone -> refinery but if that would be the case and wouldn't have worked for you

I sadly can't send you a save cause I'm playing the beta on ps and maybe that's the reason but I wanted to ask because all the materials I put into the carrier are now pretty much wasted

And thanks for the tutorials they are soooo helpful

*cough cough* i flipped a rover twice when playing with a friend *cough cough*

I recently started playing this game and I think it's just too much damn fun!

So I did a similar thing with building a tower and then a rover on top of it, but when I removed the tower base the rover was just stuck in mid air. Any ideas on how to get it to the ground so I can drive it? So far all I've come up with is putting some atmo engines on the back so I can, like, fly it to the ground.

Pro tip: put a gyroscope on your land vehicle, as you said, helps avoid flipping a little I think, but more importantly, set it to roll you in whatever is your shortest axis with pretty high power, and you can press a button to flip yourself back over if you do end up upside down.

Or you could just leave it off, with it permanently overridden. To save power, you just turn it on to flip you over.

This game is so damn cool. I'm brand new at it. So this is nuts for me.

am tired from googling so Ill just ask: can I have a mining vehicle that can fly and drive?

Am I missing something? I'm new to the game, loving it, and finding these videos so helpful. I've built a rover like this, but when the mining pod lands and connects on the rover, it doesn't empty into it like it does the base, I am having to drag and drop (on console too so it's a pain), I can't seem to figure out how to get it to flow smoothly even after tweaking with different conveyors. Can anyone help?

Good that this stuff never gets Deleated :D Cause i from time to time nee em lol. I play since years.... but igeneraly... never hold track of what, why when hehe so listn to this while i play, gives me some hints from time to time :D While i can say... Vehicles are nothing i build anymore. Experimented with em for a while for fun. Tried some tours but at the end. They are at least on Servers, rly not so great. Lag and disconnections make em horrible :D

How do I get it back up on the landing gear, in case I want to modify it? Especially from beneath

first off I gotta say I nearly bounced off this game but you helped me break through into the fun zone, thank you!
when loading your hotbar you place a single small conveyor and single regular conveyor, but then when you're building you're able to place T junctions and corners. I've looked through menus and searched online but I cannot find an appropriate hotkey to access these other blocks without putting them all on my hotbar, which then takes up most of a hotbar just for conveyors. Is this a hotkey I can't find? Is it a q.o.l. mod? thanks again, you bring much joy to this game.

what blocks did you use to construct the craddle things on the side of the batteries cant find a block that fits 5 across

Enjoying the guides thus far. But I've been trying to follow this and for some reason I just cannot get the wheel suspension to place on the front driver side of the rover. I've tried using more blocks to give more space and just...nada. It won't place no matter what.
