Hi everyone!
thank you all for subscribing, I was not expecting this many of you to sub so quickly, we're past 1k subs in less than 24 hours which is crazy!
I'm going to make a slight shift and start posting my informational talking head style videos here and keep the main channel solely focused on programming projects. Building new ideas working on my startup and getting back to the one day builds.
I appreciate all of you!
It’s the sharing it with the world that is truly unique
ОтветитьGreat storytelling, friend!
ОтветитьC’mon stop with the ”It’s called GNU/Linux!” nobody says that even if it’s right. get over it. it’s called ”linux” now.
ОтветитьFirst 10 seconds: ALL WRONG, Linus Torvalds made only the Kernel. If you refer to the GNU project you are rigth, you should call it GNU/linux or GNU + Linux, Linux is the Kernel, the rest of the os is GNU. It's like to call your android phone Linux (it uses Linux kernel). SO please give credit to the GNU project.
Ответитьcreate more
ОтветитьThe next person after Oppenheimer who deserves a full length movie.
ОтветитьThe creator of Minix, Andew S Tanenbaum was just too shortsighted to understand that he needs to make Minix open Source. Minix was from Architecture side better than Linux.
Ответитьlinux sucks!
Ответить*created a kernel, the desktop is GNU
ОтветитьFun fact: PS4 is based off of Linux, switch is based off of android, so it’s based off Linux.
There are lots of gamers running Linux!
Hello World
ОтветитьWindows rule
ОтветитьIf you have ever worked with x86 assembly then you understand the the patience and dedication Linus had in his early day. I like Z80 assembly but x86 is way over my head.
ОтветитьLinux is NOT the first open source operating system. The A2-System developed by UNIVAC in 1953 was released to customers with source code.
ОтветитьDislike... "one developer create an entire operating system"!!!!
I was expecting to hear something like that sooner or later, this what happens when people keeps forgetting GNU.
The operating system is called GNU/Linux, but over time and for various reasons people just called it Linux.
Linux is just the kernel, by Linux Torvalds, but "an entire operating system" is more than the kernel.
I'm not a gamer, So I can't really comment on that aspect, But I find very little that I would ABSOULUTELY NEED Windows or MacOS for that I can't do with Linux. I do have both Windows and Linux machines (as well as an Android phone and Android tablet). A lot of people note that Linux is "cool" because it's free. Hell, The best thing about Linux is it runs on DAMN NEAR ANYTHING. from cheap single board hobby computers to supercomputers. A lot of people worry about a "learning curve"... But there are distros that are easy to move to if you are a Windows or MacOS. Hell, I bet there some for OS/2 fans! I'm not "religious" about OSs, I use Windows, And If you are "in love" with MacOS, Great! But if one is "uncommited" and is considering building a desktop PC, Give a Linux distro a try. My "go to" is Linux Mint.
ОтветитьI also bought my first i386 PC in 1991. I used it for word processing, spreadsheets and a couple of small databases. and SOME QuickBASIC coding. Linus goes and makes an operating system!
ОтветитьTop bloke. Been using Linux since 2006
ОтветитьI switched from Windows to Linux about eight years ago.
Yes, there was a learning curve, but it was overwhelmingly worth it.
You mentioned x86 Assembly while showing Javascript?
Ответитьi am watching this video in linux
ОтветитьIt just feels liberating and refreshing to use an OS that is truly free and doesn't spy on you to sell your data. 😌
ОтветитьI think that nowadays people lack this kind of drive that motivated Linus. When something is not working, we either stick to it anyway or seek just marginally better alternatives. Linus seems to be kind of guy that makes his own stuff when easly available options are not satisfying it, be it an operating system kernel or anything.
ОтветитьThis Steam gamer just switched to Linux, so there's one more statistic for Linux gamer growth.
ОтветитьZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYTTO
Ответить'I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby... " Just a hobby! JUST A HOBBY! DEVELOPING AN OPERATING SYSTEM AS A HOBBY!
Ответитьecho "The Year $(expr $(date +%Y) + 1) will be the year of the linux desktop!"
Ответитьlinux stands for "linux is not unix"
Ответитьthis man named all the debian based distros not even naming fedora or red hat linux enterprise
Ответить“The Linux operating system—“
I’d like to interject for just a moment
Lol.. just a hobby that won't be big. Guess that changed a bit. ;)
ОтветитьLittle correction there. Linux never became an OS. It's still just the kernel of systems like GNU and Android.
ОтветитьSuch a wonderful story!
ОтветитьTorille!
Ответитьlong time Fedora user here, I am really happy and thankful to Linus and gentlemen that created RedHat to run UNIX-like OS as my daily driver
ОтветитьMicrosoft and Apple 🙄😒🤔🧐😂
ОтветитьViva Linux 👍🏼
Ответитьlinux is not an operating system it is a kernel
ОтветитьFlutter 😅
ОтветитьI used Arch (btw)
yet, I'd like to buck the trend of saying you have to use what I use. I just found it works for me because it's basics aren't too difficult if you've handled a basic terminal/shell in something like a valve hl2-based game. Use whatever distro is comfortable to you and what you are able to understand. Don't neglect learning troubleshooting, and when you do learn something, share it. If you find an answer while on a forum, show your final solution in an edit or final reply before closing it, as someone is going to run across it from a search.
And most of all, Linux will let you own your PC past 2025 when Windows will create the biggest E-waste mess in history.
“following the Open Source mentality of the GNU project” – Who finds the error?
ОтветитьIt would be great if you could interview Linus Torvalds
ОтветитьFascinating story Kalle👏🏻What a way to start off the channel, keep up the high quality, interesting contents bro👊🏻👌🏻
ОтветитьWindows is a fools OS.
ОтветитьYou maybe should have also mentioned, that you can run linux alongside windows etc. on a harddrive.
Ответить"This is the story of how one developer created an entire operating system"
Stallman was right, calling it just "Linux" creates confusion.
Linux is a kernel. GNU/Linux is an OS!
Ответить
