Those throws are awesome, but you can see the problem that judo approach to fight creates - many times he lands in not so good position, sometimes almost with his back taken. In judo it doesn't matter that much, dude lands on his back - you get ippon, but in BJJ and MMA this starts to be a problem, cause you can get rolled over or give up the back.

Damn I know this is his highlight reel over an entire career. But damn impressive with the takedowns. Almost no wrestling. A few takedowns around the hips and dropped but damn. Amazing.

Loved watching Karo. Started training Judo after watching his fights. If he was able to overcome his mental demons he would have gone down as one of the greats imo.

He was never in great shape and but his skills were another level and he was destroying guys when everyone was on the juice.

This wad my favorite wra of UFC in the favorite division. Karo was a beast and really brought a judo that he have not seen since maybe Ronda. Dong Hyun Kim (sp) who he fought, also had great judo.

Oh that sneaky ankle pick. During my heyday, only two guys could take me down at our club. The chief instructor (one time Olympic contender) and my good friend who is now a rokudan (6th dan). And he often did it with that sneaky ankle pick. Lol. I'm no judo master. I was a high level karate competitor and "3 pie a side" bench type. They were just that smooth. The sensei could hold me down with Ushiro-Kesa-Gatame. Who the hell can do that??? Truly the "gentle way" designed for the smaller man to defend himself.

Funny you included that clip of the GSP fight. Karo got absolutely worked that entire fight and a young St Pierre easily out grappled him while he was still in his "kickboxer" stage.

I saw only one throw that we don't use or practice in wrestling.
