Zakynthos is a port city in the east of the Greek island of the same name in the Ionian Sea. Zakynthos is located at the foot of the Bochali hill and is both the capital and the main port of the island. In 2001, 16,810 inhabitants lived here. The highest altitude here is on Skopos hill – 492 m. On August 12, 1953, the city was destroyed by a strong earthquake. 6 km south of the city is the international airport.
