Crime spreads across this city like a bad virus: Robbery/arson/fraud/prostitution/drug dealing/burglary/robbery/murder. NYC: The Big Apple, The City That Never Sleeps, the once great city I took an oath to serve and protect 15 years ago. .In the 15 years I have been on this job, I have worked some pretty bizarre cases. Allow me to introduce myself: (takes out a cigar/lighter puts cigar in his mouth/lights it/ takes out his wallet/shows badge/ID) Name's Keller, Hayes Keller, Detective Lt., NYPD 53rd Precinct Robbery Division, Brooklyn. This is the story of one of my recent cases. It was a Tuesday night, i was working late that night in my office on the 3rd floor of the 53rd Precinct in Brooklyn, working on a report of a recent robbery at a diner where two employees/good friends of mine were killed 3 days ago, I was just about to finish my report and go get something to eat, when all of a sudden, my office phone rang , when the phone starts ringing at 3 AM, its not a good sign. (phone ringing) "53rd Precinct Robbery Division, Det. Lt. Keller speaking, I said, as I answered it, Captain (over phone) Keller, this is Captain Bartlett, Im sorry to bother you at this late hour, but there's been another robbery, Hammerman's Cafe, 302 E Caroline Street. I need you to come down right away. "Im on my way Captain, I said. I hung up the phone, grabbed my gun, hat, and coat and headed to the scene. It only took me about 5 to 15 minutes to get to the scene, when i arrived, there were police cars: Marked and unmarked, uniformed officers, two FDNY ambulances. The paramedics were treating 2 patients that had been shot. "its going to be a long night, I said to myself.

"You've been peepin', see? Spying through them windows, tryin' to lay your eyes on what ain't meant for ya."

A chill traced its icy finger along my spine, raising the hairs on the back of my neck. Gripping the phone tighter, I steadied myself, the weight of the city's secrets pressing upon my shoulders. "Who's this?" I demanded, my voice tinged with equal parts trepidation and grit.

A sinister chuckle danced on the other end, as the voice whispered with a twisted charm, "They call me the Puppeteer, Pal, and you've been stumblin' into the backstage of my show uninvited. Keep pokin' around, and I'll make sure the strings I pull tighten 'round the neck of your darlin' lil' Annie."

The name is Rufus C. Rollins, a hard-boiled detective with a nose for trouble and a taste for treats – and by treats, I mean whiskey. And sandwiches. I'm not your average gumshoe. What is the catch? Well, I'm a dog. But don't let my furry exterior fool you, I've seen enough of the seedier side of life to make a grown human cry. But not me. I don’t cry. Haven’t since my baby teeth fell.

It was a typical rainy night in the city when she walked into my office. A fox in a red dress, with legs that went on for miles and a face that could make a man forget his own name. She had a job for me, and I knew right away that it was going to be a doozy.

"My name is Vixen," she said, "and I need your help."

I poured myself a shot of whiskey and leaned back in my chair. "What's the job?"

"My husband, a wealthy businessman, has been murdered," she said, her voice shaking. "I know who did it, but the police won't believe me. They think I'm just a crazy, jealous wife."

I took a sip of my whiskey and studied her. She was the typical femme fatale, with a body that could make a man do anything she wanted. But there was something in her eyes that told me she was telling the truth.

"Great work, agent! I can say with utmost certainty that operation thunderstorm was a resounding success. Unfortunately, I lied about your vacation. Sorry, but the agency simply cant afford that."

It looked like rain, so I got up to close the window. That guy on the sidewalk was still playing his sax.
He was good, but I had heard enough for one day.
When I turned back to my desk, she was already standing in front of it.

"Can I help you?", I said.

"No, Mr. Starker, I'm here to help you.", she whispered. "You placed a Want Ad for a secretary in today's paper. I'd like to apply for the position."

"Cookie, you can have any position you want." I replied, "You're hired as of now. And from now on, call me Mick."

"Oh, thank you Mr, uh, Mick." she squealed, "You don't know how happy this makes me."

"Sit down, sugar, pour yourself a drink. We've got all night to get to know each other. And you don't know how happy this'll make me!", I said as I removed my tie.

That's when the phone rang. That's when it all started to go sideways.
Who could've figured that she'd wind up dead, and I'd be sitting in a jail cell talking to you?
