What did you think of the 4K - an improvement or not worth it? 👍🏼

I have more success shooting my Tamron SP 28-105 mm along with my Tamron 10-24 mm. Really like them both for landscapes, especially when planning on a panoramic stitched image. Great content Nigel.

For landscape photography I only have an 18 - 200 lens and adjust accordingly to acheive my composition. Seeing the range of lenses you use, I am wondering if I am missing out on something. If I was to shoot a scene at say 60mm with my 18 - 200, and then shoot the same scene in the same place using a 70 - 100 lense (if there is such a lens) at 60mm the same, would the results be the same. Why do you swap lenses for different focal lengths apart from the obvious being out of range for that lens. Are you getting something that has more in focus? is the result crisper? There has to be a reason otherwise everyone would buy, like me, an 18 - 200 and save alot of money.

Thanks for all your work , I'm new to landscape photography as normally I do astrophotography. Watching Alwyn Wallace one day and he mentioned yourself, so rather than having my gear sitting idly I thought to give it a go. I live 10 minutes from the hook peninsula in rep of Ireland so I love your seascape videos, had my first go last week following your settings guide and pleased with the results. It's a complete different discipline to my normal photography but really enjoying the challenge. Thanks for your helpfull advice.

Hi Nigel. I've got a bit of a dilemma... My current line-up is: Sony G 20mm, Zeiss 55, Viltrox 85 f/1.8 (which I actually use for street) and the new 70-200 f/4. I'm wondering whether I should add a 35mm prime (the GM from Sony is such a sweet lens) or... a zoom from Tamron (28-75 g2, which is great, too) Any thoughts? I shoot mainly landscapes, street, and candid portraits.

LOL. I have just started my landscape photography journey with 14mm prime. I was wondering why it's so difficult to compose a scene considering all my major subjects were very far. Thanks for your explanation. I had a hunch but it clarifies now.

Thanks Nigel, For landscape photography that involves hiking, I'd like to go for a 2 lens setup. I recently got my Sony A7R4 with 61 megapixel sensor. Even in 1.5x APS-C crop it has 26 megapixels. This means also a 24-70 lens has the equivalent of 105mm on the long end in APS-C. Plenty of versatility though and a lighter & smaller bag because I don't need the very long lenses... eqcept if I buy the f/2.8 versions instead of the f/4...

I am an ameature landscape photographer and this might be a dumb question to many but how is stitching 3 photos taken on a 24mm lens different from a single photo taken on 14mm? I know the 24 mm will have more compression but does one look better than the other ?

Thank you Nigel for these videos . I've just recently purchased a entry grade canon and really found your explanations on the different aspects of photograghy very easy to get a basic guide to start taking my camera off the auto. and most important is the compositional aspects. I am a painter and find myself using 3+ different pictures too make my painting compositions and now being able to get my own pictures to make these paintings instead of using other artists photos is going to be great. Thank you again.

Conundrum: going on a 3-day hike, can’t carry too much weight due to bad knees and I am a small guy, already carrying a backpack filled with necessities. Can only bring one lens, and the hiking route goes through many saddles, cliffs and narrow footpaths, ie. not much room to adjust my distance, and I want to enjoy the hike. I only hv Sony aps-c camera. Should I bring 10-20mm, 16-55mm or 70-350mm for landscape photography?

Is f/2.8 ever useful for landscape shots using ultra wide lenses on a full-frame body? If not, what’s the real purpose for such a fast ultra-wide? Is it only for architecture or videography.

Good explanation. Unfortunately you have few examples of the same scene shot at different focal lengths. Showing another focal length but with a totally different scene shows little that the viewer can compare. I would have gotten much more from your segment if you had lingered on one example scene and shown what effects the different focal lengths have on your composition choices. It might be a good use of a zoom lens to show the differences clearly. I look forward to learning more.

The one element you did not address was time!
How much time did/do you spend shooting the trees in fog, for example?
Not the walking to the site but once at the general site, how much time do you spend looking, finding, thinking, picking an angle, doing the composition, waiting for clouds to move, the sun to rise or fall, etc? Some of us don't take enough time to wait for a picture to reveal itself, more fully!
But once in the general location how much time do you spend looking to see what might be possible before walking on!
Thanks a bunch!

Your 'sunset shot in San Francisco' was actually a morning shot, seen from the headlands, shot back toward San Francisco.
(There is no big hill on the other end of the bridge, the city end, beside you can see the city in the picture with most of the bridge, too!)
I lived in SF for nearly 8 years and took many, many similar pictures. But your sunset pic is a morning pic for sure!

Brilliant explanation of different lens and the focal range, I'm now going to try use my 70-200mm more often than my 16-35mm to get more compositions when there isn't much of a foreground in the shots. Thank you for this video amongst many of the others I've been binge watching this afternoon. I seriously wish I had come across your stuff earlier!!

landscape photographers ofter are saying that zoom lenses are better than prime, but they often shoot at the 2 extreme of the focal range.
