The Handle Moves but the Window Won't Open (Difficult to open example)

It's not one of those locks that I can just move up or down with a L-shaped metal. It's only stuck one side but it goes in and out, not up and down. It's been very cold cos I can't shut it as its broken or jammmed please help.

I have same problem only on upper latch but my mechanism seems to be internal so inly have small pin sliding up and down on the very top and bottom of the window
Any ideas please?

Great I managed to open my stuck window, Problem is on mine is the handle does not properly engage the locks It misses as its loose inside , if I open the window and turn the handle I see them move a bit but then slip back into same position. so it does it everythime I close it. :(

Worked a treat. A video about the causes and fixes would be super useful. In my case it turned out the frame had moved so I tightened up some screws and everything aligned perfectly again 😄

I can’t seem to get the hook inside and around the bolt???

Won`t work with mine, when it`s in the locked position you cant get to the catches.

Tried this after replacing the handle on a side hinged window. Seems to be stuck in the locked position because the alan key trick didn't work. Been a horrible 5 days with a window locked during a heat wave

The allen key will not reach the bolt. Its about 2cm short. What else could i use?

Brilliant, thanks so much. Took 2 mins. Tightened the locking screw on the slider mechanism once the window was open, which had come loose after several years; oiled the sliders, and works perfectly now. 👍👍

Thank you so much, I managed to get the window open using your tip. I did have to approach it from outside (ground floor) as there were too many angles internally from the inside on my type of window and the bolt was nearer to outside too, an allan key from the outside worked a treat! However I can see the mechanism will need replacing as it only closes not opens. Many thanks for my temporary fix.

Not what I was looking for but cool. Apparently I have this latch which doesn't have a roller. It's just push pin , and it's driving me mad.

My problem with a similar window is the opposite the handle isn't working mechanism. Seems to be slipping inside.

2 years mine has been stuck and alleged experts said window would need to be replaced. This worked 1st time brilliant 👏!!

Is it true if you don’t open windows for a very long period of time they will become stiff to open?

Hey man, I just moved to a property and all the windows are stuck, the frames are wood though and it's in Shetland, the handles look corroded... would you be able to help please? I will donate to your paypal or something if you can help me please... there's black mould on the ceilings from the previous occupants, I don't know if they even ever opened these windows :'(

Ahhhh thank you!!! It worked a treat, and now I can properly ventilate my home for the first time in about 2 years 😂

One slight issue I've spotted now is that the mushroom on the side that was jammed, doesn't move when I 'lock' the window (while it's open)... It slides when I unlock it but I have to hit it with a hammer for the unlock. Do you know how I could fix this?

hello mate i got a window and the shootbolt bar on the bottom stays locked the top moves up and down ok can you tell me do i need change the handle works ok

Is there anything you can do if you have no roller cams on the windows? Mine seems to just have a shoot bolt but no roller cams / mushrooms

I've got a jammed large window as in your first demo. Once I get it freed off is it best to remove the locking bar mechanism (use the handle to latch it in the meantime) measure up and buy a new locking bar mechanism - so hopefully it doesn't jam again? We've had two go like it over about 15 years. Many thanks👍😊

My window opens half way but at the bottom it is stack. Tried everything. Cannot open it.

Nice video and really clear. Unfortunately I'm having a few issues getting the alan key to latch properly. It's a pvc bathroom window which is side hung The handle does operate correctly in that I can completely lock it. However when reopening only the top mechanisms are freed. The problem looks to be with the bottom shoot bolt or roller cam. I can get the alan key in fine and can twist it but it doesn't want to hook anything. Anything else I can try? Appreciate its hard to comment without seeing it. Cheers.
