@tony: how is the situation 9 years later? Just waiting for my used copy. I will use it for milky way shooting. How did the kit lemses evolve over the generations.

If not this lens, what is the best portraiture lens for APS-C camera (T7i)?

WOH. I did NOT know the crop factor also impacted the aperature!!! I tend to shoot FF but also keep a 7D for that little extra 1.6 factor reach. SO this won't work on an FF ?

Hello : I have Canon EOS Rebel T6i - Can I use f1.8 for 1/100 ISO 100 for family picture (2 to 8 people) inside house with low light condition? If not what would you recommend the setting for sharp picture for a family picture (2- to 8 people)?

I just bought a second-hand lens for my Nikon D3300. While mounting, I feel a lot of resistance. Can that be a problem that might damage the lens or the body?

Hi Tony, question.. I've seen many comments about the Sigma 18-35 focus issues. Do you know if this has been corrected. I would love to buy this lens you recommend but am concerned about this problem. Thank you so much for your time and work. I have three of your books and have learned much from you. Thank you!!

Even after so many years of waiting, lens did not got cheaper nor any better replacement!
I am using Nikon d5500 with kit lens and 50mm prime lens.
Need something for indoor photography as 50mm is sometimes difficult to use

The f/value of a lens does not change no matter what camera it is used on. Full frame or C-chip or 3x4 censer. Where in God's name did you come up with the f/value needs to be multiplied by the crop to full frame factor. That is wrong at all levels.

Tony two issues plz answer, one why u have to set iso on a higher side for full frame thats 1600 iso when you said crop body let less light in compare to full frame? I mean 1.8f on crop should let equal light in as 2.8f on full frame. Secondly focal length, why crop had 35mm and full frame had 70 when its should be 35mm and 56mm (35*1.6) on crop and full frame respectively. Please explain these two points.
Thanks for a great video✌️

You want to improve your film making - invest in lens. All cameras are pretty much the same and talking about focal lengths and crop sensors is a load of crap. Buy the right lenses, frame your subject and keep shooting until you're proud of the results. Oh and forget shooting photos and video they dont make you money.

Applying crop factor to f stop only works in order to achieve the same DOF and noise ratio, NOT THE SAME EXPOSURE, or else light meters would include a crop variable. Please do not miss inform viewers. A FF camera set to "X" settings WILL HAVE SAME EXPOSURE as a MFT camera with same "X" settings. DOF and NOISE RATIO won't be the same.

"An 2.8 becomes an f4" That is just really incorrect. I shoot with a crop and a full frame simultaneously and I use the same lenses on both, crop and full frame lenses. The settings are always the same to get the same result.

Tony, thank for the review. I recently purchased the Nikon D7500 and am looking for a lens that won't break the bank for some golf course photography. I am looking for a high level of sharpness and like the f1.8 if I need to shoot in early morning or late evening light. I'd love to hear your thoughts if this lens is a good fit. Thanks, Jason

Why is the F-Stop on an APS-C lens on an APS-C camera body, also multiplied by the crop factor? E.g. Canon M50 with the Sigma 18-35 f1.8. Also, has Sigma improved the focus pulling on this lens, as I wish to shoot indoor sports. Additionally, with the Viltrox speed booster work on this lens?

Man, I LOVE this lens, I've had mine since 2014 when I was shooting with a Canon 7D. I then sold my 7D to test the waters with mirrorless, so I bought a Sony a6000 and the Sigma MC-11. It has served me well, but I just upgraded to a Sony a7iii, and need a new wide prime to replace it with. Luckily I already had a Sony FE 85mm f/1.8.
If only Sony or Sigma made a 24-70mm f/1.8, I would jump all over that.
