Bears will take food like that. But the problem is when it goes up to a person and they don't have food. Then it gets ugly. For the person. That's why you never feed a bear. There's a solid chance it won't hurt you, but it sure as hell will eventually hurt someone as a result of being conditioned to take food from people.

Adults loose the dexterity, and their size is too large, for them to climb effectively. That's why the brown bear in that tree was looking unsure about how it could get higher.
